That symbol is the low battery level indicator. Does the gps turn itself off if it is connected to the car battery charger or plugged into the usb port on your computer?

I too have this problem.
This was not an issue before the latest navcore update.
I have the power cable plugged in VERY FIRMLY but still after 10 min the device switches itself off after showing a red battery symbol.
No idea what to do about it!
Very frustrated and dissapointed with the latest update.

You need to first confirm that the battery has not failed.
1. Charge the gps for 4 hours
2. Disconnect the gps from the charger
3. Turn on the gps and pull up the battery status screen, it should show the battery is fully charged
4. Let the gps run and monitor the battery status, it should run for about 1.5 to 2 hours and the status indicator should
slowly show the battery discharging.
If the battery is discharging within 30 min. or less you have a bad battery.

I tried this and the battery lasted around 1.5 hours.
I think you misunderstand the problem that bothers me though, let me explain.
The power cable is definately correctly connected as the traffic data is downloaded but randomly whilst driving the device switches off. This happens with the power cable PLUGGED IN so there should be no impact due to the battery.

Sorry, you mention that you were having the same problem as 1taxipaul1, I am therefore assuming that you are not getting the low power indicator on your screen, is this correct? Does the gps just turn off without any warning?
Right now, I would recommend that you reinstall the software on the gps and run a utility to check the memory for errors.
Do you have a backup of the gps or have updated the application in the past ( there may still be a copy of the old application on your pc which you can install ).
To reinstall the applcation and check the memory:
First: make a backup of the contents of the gps using windows explorer. Per this link.
Second: check the flash memory in the gps to make sure there are no errors.
Third: If the memory has no errors or they were repaired by the check disk utility you just ran, uninstall the software on the gps and reinstall it.
Note: when reinstalling the gps software you may have to perform up to three updates to get everything installed. The gps may not work correctly until all the updates are installed. Be sure to restart Home and the gps between each update. If the gps won't connect to the computer normally just reset the gps with it connected to the computer. The gps should automatically try to connect to the pc.
Forth: If the gps is working now, there are a few misc files like startup / shutdown screens that you can copy back to the gps from the backup copynyou made. Here is a list of those files. Just use windows explorer to copy them from the main directory of the backup to the main directory in the gps. Do worry if you do not find all these files are not on your backup. Not all gps models have all these files.
1. antitheftw.bmp (this may have the named antitheft.bmp)
3. splashw.bmp (this may have the named splash.bmp)
4. suspendw.bmp (this may have the named suspend.bmp)
If everything is working ok now we recommend making a final backup of your gps. That way if something happens in the future all you have to do is delete everything on the gps and copy the backup to the gps and you are done.

I have a similar problem. I was driving, just starting out, and my XXL just all of a sudden died. I figured it was because the battery was low so I kept it charged the rest of the trip. Now it won't turn on at all. I have it plugged into the computer now but there isnt a green light on either like when it was plugged in in the car.

Does the green light come on when it is plugged into your car charger?

Hum, the green light just indicates that the cable has 5 volts available. If it does not work with your computer but does with the car charger, it would suggest that the problem is the computer usb port or the cable, try another usb cable.
