Ok I will go pick up a new charger. Thanks for your help! Will it turn on once it's charged you think?

I have an XL 335-T that the power cord's green light does not light up (in three vehicles). The unit will charge 100% by computer but dies in car. Should I just but another power cord, and is there a particular one if so?

Yes, the charger is the problem, but before spending any money on a new charger check the fuse in the charger. To do this, there is a black plastic nut on the end of the charger that plugs into the car receptacle.  Unscrew the nut and you will find a fuse and spring.  Its a glass fuse and you should see a fine wire running thru the glass tube. If the wire is not there or the glass tube is coated with a black soot on the inside, the fuse is blown. You can get a replacement fuse at any RadioShack or even an automotive store.

As for purchasing a new charger, any universal USB car charger rated at 1 amp will work fine.  Here is one from Amazon.com.

Just to add my tuppence.

I've just had my tomtom 910 start to turn on and off what seemed like intermittently. Checked settings and turned of the command that caused the tomtom to switch off when power disconnected (i.e. ignition turned off) and found the unit wouldn't power up at all. Hooked it up to the PC using mains power and USB which worked OK. Modern batteries have some control electronics attached to them which has an effect on how they behave in low power and charging I'm lead to believe, also as a note, the power cable is a poor fit in the desk top holder! Doesn't fit snug and easily loses contact (IMHO) 

Decided it had to be the battery which I duly replaced and now working great. Not worth sending in for repair because of the cost of these units but £8.99 for a replacement battery and 20 mins work to swap out battery means I still have a working unit.

If you do it, take your time and you shouldn't have a problem. It's probably more cost effective to change the battery before scrapping your unit. It's up to you what you do in the end though.
