not able to search POI

i am extremely frustrated with my new TomTom XXL.  i cannot search a POI by name.  when i go to the "navigate to" option, choose "points of interest," and then choose "search POI," no matter what i type in i recieve the message "No POI found!"  i have tried typing in locations that i know the GPS has in it's database, but it will not pull info up on that location when i search for it this way.  this makes it difficult to search for places because you need to go through the categories and then search that way.  common places such as Best Buy, Walmart, & Shaw's are not found!  someone help me figure this out please!!!

Re: not able to search POI

When you type wal-mart something should appear (notice the hyphen?).

Also, when you type 'best', don't all items with the those characters show up?

Re: not able to search POI

i type in wal-mart and get no results.  if i type in best, nothing with best comes up.  even when i know a point of interest that is in the tomtom database and try typing that in, it will not display it as a POI found!

Re: not able to search POI

If I try to search for a POI which I have previously used in a route it is found OK.  If I try to search for a POI which I know exists, but hasn't been previously used in a route it is not found.  Not the most useful search engine I've ever seen.

Re: not able to search POI

My tomtom xl doesnt except wal-mart as a searched POI either. It says POI not found. However on my friends tomtom(forgot which model) it does come up with wal-marts and the super centers. Its also newer but that shouldnt matter. How do add these walmarts as a POI?

[ Edited ]

I cant even search for a meijers store. I even tried it without the s "meijer". I just figured it out. When typing Wal-mart, i dont need the dash so instead i just have to type "Walmart" and it comes up with a listing.

Re: not able to search POI

I had the same issue.  Tech support had me force an update of my device application.  They had me delete the current applications (TomTom Home, Manage My Device) and then install the latest via Update My Device.

Also, see the forum sticky
http://www.tomtomforums.com/tomtom-one-start-ease-xl-xxl/24948-fixing-problems-xxl-540-updated-3-17-...

under the Software section.

Hope this helps.

Re: not able to search POI

Mine worked fine and then suddenly stopped a couple of months ago. No map updates were done. Just stopped.

Also, on the internet, which I am on all day, I can't ever seem to get to these sticky notes or forum urls. It makes me log in over and over and over if and when it comes up. Most of the time it just freezes my browser which I use for work just fine all day long.

It took me 4 days to finally find the fix it for the mispronunciation in route numbers. That was after I gave up on the 11 hours with tech support which hasn't been able to fix anything. How come tech support doesn't know about the solutions in the forums? What's the exact purpose of tech support? Not quite getting this.

I wanted to buy a bunch of international maps for an upcoming trip but now hesitant about throwing more money at a product that has no tech support or solutions and different features just stop working suddenly.

Half my mostly used POIs are gone as well. This thing was much better when I first got it then it is now. It's going down hill fast.

Re: not able to search POI

Also, tech support had me install the latest update as well but it fixed nothing. It took over an hour to run it all and it was worse off then when I started.

Re: not able to search POI

Also it says I registered 3 hours ago.

I registered months ago and then again a week ago.

I can't even seem to get the forum thing to work.

It rejected my password (which I had recorded) and wouldn't send me a reminder of it. I have an acct for over a year but nothing seems to relate to these forums.

This is all very strange and poor customer service I feel. Does anyone know of a good site where you can ck out reviews of these vendors before buying any of their products. The inital reviews by editors is irrelavent. I want user reviews to see if people are frustrated or not before I go buy another one. I'm not willing to jump to their competitor just to get the same lack of customer support I'm getting here. But I need to buy a new one before I go overseas.
