Re: lost my activation code

What activation code have you lost? The device should not need an activation code to work.

Activation codes for new maps, however (if that's what you mean) should be treated just like cash. Generally speaking, if they are lost they cannot be replaced. That would be the same as withdrawing €100 from an ATM, losing it somewhere, and then returning to the bank asking for a replacement for the €100 you got from their ATM. TomTom has no way of knowing if you gave your code away, sold it on eBay, or whatever else you might have done. No more than the bank would know whether you lost the money you took from the ATM, spent it on wine and beer, or simply gave it away.

Re: lost my activation code

I disagree with what you are saying.

I have just bought a 2nd hand Tom Tom One XL from Ebay in good faith.

Basically if I have the device then the maps should work with the device 'as standard'

Juts because I the product code is lost, does this mean the device is useless.  You have paid for maps to work on that device, and that device alone.

I have recently had my 2nd TomTom stolen out of my vehicle, and not to be able to use this TomTom I have just received in the post is so frustrating.

There does not seem to be any way to make this device work.

Re: lost my activation code

So, let's get the facts straight:

  • You lost your original TomTom (stolen from your vehicle).
  • To replace it, you purchased a used XL from eBay.
  • The eBay device is not working.

Is that correct? You should really have started a separate thread on your topic, but:

  • What happens when you turn on the device?
  • Have you attempted to update the device with TomTom Home? If so, did you use the same e-mail as the stolen device?
  • Did you have a map update code for the stolen device? Did you ever use it?
  • If it will not start, have you attempted to reset the eBay device by holding down the power button until you hear drums? Sometimes, it may be necessary to do this while the device is connected to a computer via a USB cord, even if TomTom HOME is not running.

If the device was described as working, and will not work, then you can file a dispute with eBay. In the meantime, since this is a used device:

  • If it starts up, you should perform a full factory reset.
  • If it starts up, check the settings for the current map on the device.
  • If it starts up and recognizes being connected to a computer, you should examine the files on the device to see if there any maps in the files and report back.

There is no reason why a used working device will not work with it's own maps. All TomToms are sold ready to use when new, with maps on board. If you had a map code for newer maps, then that's a separate issue.

At the moment, with so little information on what problems you are experiencing, it is impossible to know exactly what you need help with.
