Transferring favorites?

How can I move my Favorites from my old Tom Tom One XL to my New Tom Tom 350TM?

Re: Transferring favorites?

You might try coping the file name mapsettings.cfg from your old unit to the new unit.

This file will be located in the folder name US_Canada_Mexico ( the name may vary slightly depending on the exact coverage of the map).

Note: in the new unit rename the file mapsettings.cfg to something like Oldmapsettings.cfg, so that you can go back to it if the mapsettings.cfg from the old unit does not work

Note: It is a good idea to create a backup of your new unit to protect against bad things happening now or in the future.

Much easier to restore your unit from a backup. Here is a link for a good procedure.

Re: Transferring favorites?

Also note that the mapsettings.cfg file where your favorites are stored may be deleted from the gps and when you restart your gps the gps will see it missing and simply create a new blank one.

Re: Transferring favorites?

Done. That was very easy once you knew to get the .cfg file.  I saved it to my desktop from the old them moved it to the new.  All went well and the favorites are recognized in the new unit.  Thank you sooo much. Dan

Great, glad it worked..... actually I have never tried that before.... you made a good guinea pig.

You might want to mark this as solved so other might find it useful.

Re: Transferring favorites?

Thanks.  I managed to locate the mapsettings.cfg file from the backup folder on my XL IQ.  How can I transfer or copy this file  (favorites) to TOMTOM VIA260?

Re: Transferring favorites?

It isn't a seamless thing to do.......

Do you still have the XL unit?

If so, do the following:

1. Convert the favourites to a custom ov2 (poi) file. See here for instructions:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=71517&highlight=

2. Then start up your Via and connect to the computer. In the desktop's MyTT icon will be a link 'add community content'. Click on it and a screen will open that allows the user to add various files to the unit, including custom poi files. Add the custom one you created in step 1.

Re: Transferring favorites?

Thank you, this was very helpful.  I was able to move my bookmarks from my ONE to my XL 340 by copying the mapsettings.cfg file.  Big thanks!
