Try the power reboot again by holding the power button about 10 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. Also, try a different usb port (preferably on the back of the cpu). And make sure you're using the cable that came with the unit.

Nothing...
I have TomTom version #2.8.3.2458
It says my device is not connected.
Are there anti-virus issues ESET smart security? Microsoft firewall?
Should there be a device for this TomTom in the windows device manager?
Is there a utility program that forces a connection around the plug and play feature?
Could the plug and play feature be a manufacturer defect?
The device re-booted properly after letting go of the power button when the music started.

Has anyone found a fix for this?
I tried deleting all the files (except folders) in the tomtom file and reinstalling them to no luck, I get the same sector protection error.
After installing the update it freezes at the tomtom logo, but if I turn it off (soft reset) then it displays a green screen and goes back to the sector protetion error. I downloaded the most recent update (through tomtom home) but it still gives the same error.
Any one know how to install the clear flash tool. I installed it & unzipped it , then I get error "No setup information found on Disk or Cd-rom"??

There is no setup... just plug the gps into the pc and click on the file "clear_flash.exe" . Do not unpack it., It is a self executing achive.

TomTom XXL IQ is not detected as a device on Windows7. I reconnected to a computer running XP, works perfect, updates, detection etc. TomTom XXL IQ is not compatable with Windows 7, I have both platforms and I can tell you what worked for me!!
