Connect to Home. Run the emulator (Operate my Go). Navigate to a location. Inh the city screen, make SURE your state is selected, not the generic USA symbol at the top. Finish the route.
Detach properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.

Actually, it's an issue with the mapsettings.cfg file in the map folder on your unit. Sometimes the application 'barfs' when dealing with that file. Using Home's emulator rewrites the data in the file and often cures the problem.

I just had the same problem. Thanks for a quick, simple, but far-from-obvious fix.

Hello i have a problem with my TomTom XXL Canada 310 and i made the update today and now it doesn't work anymore it keeps starting from begining but never entering into the map mode.
I tried to run the emulator (Operate my XXL) and it doesn't work , the windows shows that had enconutred an error with TomTom Home 2 and need to shut down the program.
I have a back up , if i restore to that back up that i have made before begining to update, it works fine , once i unplug him it shows me the map , etc... But i wanna keep him up to date. Can you help me please ? Thanks!

Good to hear you have a backup.
Not sure which model you have, but have you tried a soft reset? If you have an XL or XXL you hold down the on button while turning it on till you hear the double drum roll.
If that doesn't help, you may need to reinstall the application: http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_

Here is some extra information on saving settings during a factory reset
Factory reset (by Traylaw)
To save your favorites use Windows Explorer, open the gps drive and then locate and open the map folder. In your case the folder will have the name :USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P. In this folder you will find a file with the name "mapsettings.cfg. Copy this file to your pc's hard drive.
Next perform the factory setting reset. You will find the option in "Change preferences" or "Options" depend on your model.
If everything is working ok copy the mapsettings.cfg back to the "USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P folder. Note you will find a new copy of the file in your folder, just overwrite it using your backup copy.
