Hi sallor,
I tried that in demo mode with my XL with 2D view, keeping North up on the map and the triangle didn't start rotating as it should if it would indicate your compass heading. I couldn't try it in live mode but I doubt it'll be that much different. But lets hope it is different as we'd know then what it could symbolize
.
My last assumption was that this triangle shall indicate the area where the current information is available as at the start the finish flag was in the area showing the remaining distance but this flag vanished sometime in the journey in demo mode.
Regards
Lars.

Hi Lars, the upper arrow is the compass heading, because I made that disappear. I will have to pay attention to that next time I drive.
Update: Mine was not showing that arrow, I even went for a walk with it; showed my speed but no arrow and the compass arrow rotated as we changed directions. I was able to make the arrow appear or disappear on mine by selecting or deselecting show current time on status bar.

I don't think it is the Compass as it doesnot change the orientation while I am driving.
Edit: I think the "triangle" is just to denote the current driving information vs the "Flag" on the Right hand side to denote the information there is for the destination information

I don't like that new status bar at all
I found it very unclear and the lack of satellite signal strength bar is a big minus.
I also make a very irritating notice. The sensitivity of the touchscreen is now much much weaker than when using version 8.351! My dad has TomTom XL IQ Routes2 -navigator and there was factory installed a 9.xxx version. I thought that the "bad" touchscreen was a result of a cheaper model, but after this software upgrade I think the reason is in the software
I already gave feedback to TomTom about this. Luckily I made a backup before upgrading so I was able to downgrade back to version 8.351.
Please, test that sensitivity of touchscreen and let me know did you make same kind of notices.
Hi Jsilvo,
Thanks for your feedback which I've forwarded.
You write that the sensitivity of the touch screen is much weaker than with the previous application. Can you tell us a little more about what situations you're experiencing this? Any particular menus, screens etc?
Thanks in advance,

The "bad touch" didn't occur in the particular menus or part of the screen but everywhere. No matter was I pressing in the middle of the screen (to open menu), selecting letters, selecting menu items etc. Earlier only a lightly touch was enough to select items, after upgrade lightly touch won't do anything. I have to really press the screen to select items :/

I am very upset about the update. On the previous version of the application, I was able to see my compass heading in degrees (i.e. 90 degrees ==due eat, 180 degrees = due south, etc). That option has been completely removed from this verson and instead, the same area on the screen shows the estimated time of arrival...which I am smart enough to figure out myself and don't need.
Is there any way to get back the full compass functionality that was removed in this version?? Is there a "fix" for this version somewhere?
This is quite disappointing.

I guess I have a different take on this update. I was actually pleasantly surprised to even see a slight update to this unit. This is one area I always feel Tom Tom could be better about as updates seem to rarely if ever take place on a unit once it is no longer the most current model. Hopefully there will be more of this in the future especially to combat against GPS software available on mobile devices which have much more frequent GUI updates.
Thanks!

An update for the sake of just having an update...whether or not is provides additional functionality, features or utility does not seem sensible to me. The concept of the word "Update" implies the new application version is an improvement over the previous version. Aside from some changes in the appearance of the screen, which are not necessarily an improvement over the screen displayed by the previous application (just a different way to display some of the information), the update has actually resulted in loss of some feature(s).
Please, tell me: What is so great about this particular update??
Thanks for your opinion. I appreciate the feedback.

You are right, I had not noticed that. There is a compass arrow (on the left) that points North, but the compass with degrees is no longer on the right side. I willl miss that but in a car it is not essential as long as you roughly know which direction you are driving. If you were traveling in the woods or on water, that could be very important.
edited: I just found that with v 9.401 (and maybe 9.4) that if you uncheck Maximum Speed; which unfortunately must be the speed limit, the compass degrees appear.

Has anyone experienced a problem after loading 9.4 with the device 'recalculating' at about a 3 second rate? This is on an XL340. Put in a route and the screen shows "replanning" roughly ever three seconds after which the direction of travel arrow flashes. Haven't tried it on the road yet. I have followed the instructions on the site to solve freezing or flashing (which seems a description of my problem) with no effect.
