After updating My TomTom XL to the latest IQ routes edition v9.430 I lost the compass heading feature even though I have it enabled in options. Is there any way to get this feature back?

In Change Preferences; Status Bar Preferences, uncheck Max Speed, and check Show Compass. The Horizontal setting seems to allow the most screen space. When you uncheck Max Speed, you lose the speed limit but you will still be warned when going over the speed limit. Unchecking Max Speed will give your the degress heading of your car. Show Compass will give you the direction of North with an arrow just outside the Status Bar lower left screen. The arrow (that does not rotate) inside the status bar seems to show your direction of travel (as shown in degrees).

As of today - application version 9.43 - unchecking Max. Speed no longer works. Has anyone found an earlier application version - preferably 9.161 or less that we can install to get our compass back? I have already voiced my complaint to Tom Tom.

I would do a back up of you current system using your computer.
Then here are some things you can try.
Application for LIVE text-to speech models is here:

Non text to speech models is here:

Thanks for the help regarding the application to get the compass function restored on my XXL 550 TM. You offered a choice between Application for LIVE text-to speech models and non Live text to speech. Which one should I pick?

It depends on your model. If yours is TTS enabled, then the one with TTS, otherwise the other one.
