TomTom Navigation app for iPhone/iPad

Hi my iphone 3GS keeps intermittently saying charging is not supported with this device, when it is plugged in to my tomtom car dock, is this a common fault?

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 4S. What solved it for me, is to only put the iPhone in the dock when the power of the dock is on (car started). If I put the phone in the dock before I start my car I get the error message. I susppect it is an iOS 5 quirk.
