TomTom Navigation app for iPhone/iPad

I have been given my sons old ipod in which he had purchased the TomTom app. It works fine with TomTom car kit for Ipod but now I cannot download the latest updates because it is asking for his apple ID and login which I do not have and he has changed it since giving the Ipod to me. I have downloaded the new app to Itunes on my computer but it looks like it will wipe the other apps if I try to install.......Please help an old technophobe

It sounds to me that your son did not reset the iPod before giving it to you. The car kit does not require the Apple ID, but the app is linked to it. If you want an updated app, you'll have to get your son to sync the new app to the iPod.
