I've just purchased a Rider 2nd edition (totally unaware that it was legacy and unsupported) and tried to take advanrtage of the free map update within 30 days. All seem to go well until I took a trip to County Clare in Ireland. My Tomtom had no idea that the M6 to Galway existed at all. The first section was opened in 2006 and the last section in 2009. When I tried to download again tomtom wanted £58. Ironically my Garmin app for my Iphone costing 10% of the price paid for the tomtom had every road and performed wonderfully.
I've checked my device and it shows the map version as 715.1703 . Does anyone know if this is the latest version please?
If not does anyone know how I can get my free upgrade?
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,
that is definitely not the latest version. The latest version is map v890. You may check the map versions using the following link.
FAQ - Is my map up-to-date? (hyperlink)
Did you purchase that device as a new device or has it been used previously? The latest map guarantee is only valid for devices that have never been used previously.
If your device is a new device please connect it to your computer and first create a backup using Explorer/Finder. How that can be done is explained under the link below.
FAQ - How to create a backup of your device using Explorer/Finder (hyperlink)
Now open the application TT HOME and go to "Extras -> use my latest map guarantee" to get the latest map. You may be required to select a map zone. If that's the case just install it and afterwards you'll be able to always change the map zone as often as you'd like to.
Regards
Lars.

Hi Peter,
Just to add to Lupus' and Dittes information.
The free of charge TomTom HOME application must be installed and active, the device must be connected to the PC (and turned on) and you must be logged in into an TomTom HOME account.
A account can be created via TomTom HOME, if not already done. Such an account consists of a unique E-Mail address for each device and a password. They (TomTom) use accounts to sort contents like billable download-maps to individual devices.
Try the option in HOME menu 'Extras' with the device connected and logged in into your account.

It was bought brand new 3 weeks ago and I've had nothing but frustration since purchase. At last I'm making progress thank you very much
