Re: Urban Rider. Why is the charging bike mount and cable not standard?

Unfortunately it would seem that marketing people all over the world are the same, detached from reality.  Their concern is to write material that make's sense to them, and since most don't use the products they are writing for they tend to miss the mark all to often, although I do agree that at the price of the rider it should have included the charging mount as a standard feature, an oversite that is supposed to have been remedied with the rider 2, a bit late for anyone who already had to deal with this.

I agree, TT Rider is useless without bike power. I bought Rider V1 & had endless trouble with the powered mount. Now using Rider V2 & although the mount is not as awful as V1 it too has now packed up on me.  I have therefore had yet another European trip without my expensive toy working. Very very fed up & will probably switch to TT's main rival (which is a shame as I like the TT interface).

So what is the exact pinout of the charging dock? Can somebody measure the voltage on the pins and write it here please?

Re: Urban Rider. Why is the charging bike mount and cable not standard?

TT now have the charging mount on sale on their website. Reluctantly I have ordered one. I will let you know the pinouts next week after I get around to fitting it. Can't do it this weekend as I am off to Ireland on the bike on Friday and won't have time to fit the mount before then.

I STILL THINK THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE KIT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THINK IT IS TANTRAMOUNT TO ROBBERY TO ASK THE USER TO BUY YHE CHARGING MOUNT AS AN EXTRA.

Sorry for shouting.

Re: Urban Rider. Why is the charging bike mount and cable not standard?

I have just read all of this thread with great interest and it does seem like TomTom has gone backwards with the Urban biker unit.

I have the  rider2 europe which came with everything to get going, headset, chargingmount and cable and its been brilliant.

Im really sorry you guys have had such a hard time with TomTom, even more so where they haven't even had the courtesy to respond to this topic.

Re: Urban Rider. Why is the charging bike mount and cable not standard?

Hope this helps.

The left 2 pins are 5V output.  Can't remember the polarity, so sorry you#ll have to check with a voltmeter. The next two have some continuity between them. I guess this is some sort of sensor circuit to put the unit into bike safe mode as on the car charger I have got these are open circuit

I understood that the 2 outside pins were for 5VC and the middle 2 pins on the Tomtom are for the speaker connections when using the Car mount. What they do on the bike charging dock, I have no idea. Maybe that just have a low resistance across them to simulate a speaker...just a guess.

Re: Urban Rider. Why is the charging bike mount and cable not standard?

On the first Rider there were failures of the charging pad due to vibration  and I suspect they stopped free issuing them to reduce complaints of failure
