Thank you that all sounds good but they don't have a map up grade that is compatible with the rider 2 and don't plan to have one

v650 is the version of the map at your device. This map dates from September 2006.
It can be assumed that the original firmware v6.851 is installed at your device.
The newest firmware v7.901 is required for newer maps.
Run >>>TomTom HOME<<< / 'Update my device'. A 'Application for' should be offered. This is the firmware.
Tom Tom HOME should offer up-to-date maps (must be purchased), if it detects present firmware v7.901 at the device.
Newer firmware versions than your old v6.851 are required to handle 4GB SDHC cards.
Firmware v6.851 can't handle 4GB cards. The device must have been booted with firmware v7.901 at the old SD card immediately before inserting a 4GB card. No higher capacities possible. Most 4GB SD (without 'HC') cards won't work.

The free-of-charge program TomTom HOME needs to be installed at your PC to do the firmware update and to purchase up-to-date maps. A download link is shown in my post, above. You may try to find someone who can give assistance.
4GB cards are not required for the US map. A 2GB card should be enough (see sizes and prices as follow):

Hi, can you tell me how to confirm the Firmware, is it on Show Version? If so it states App 6.581 which wouldn't allow me to use a 4GB card? There's also an OS number, GPS version and Boot number but not of them are Firmware numbers? You have already suggested you can get a Firmware update but I can't find the link - can you advise please?

Tap at the 'Satellite staiway'. A small field with 6.581 or 7.540 or 7.541 or 7.091 is visible at the next screen. This is the firmware version. Tap at this small field and other informations are shown like unique device serial number, firmware version, memory consumption, GPS and boot code version, map type and version, selected speech.
FOC update to 7.901 an be done via >>>TomTom HOME<<<.

Thanks Mathew so I need to update the Firmware then - I'm just waiting for my 4GB card to arrive before I do that. So apologies if this is obvious but how to I upgrade the Firmware via Tom Tom Home?
