Hi All,
About 4 years ago my Rider died, well it was the SD card that died. TT only response was to buy new maps. Well I haven't been abroad in the past 4 years so I never needed the Rider.
In May I am off to France so thought I'd better get the Rider working again. So does anyone one know if the latest maps that are bigger then 2G will work with the Rider1? I don't want to spend £60 just to have the Rider1 remain as an expensive paperweight!
Thanks
Geoff

Hi
Buy a bigger SD card Rider should take up to 4GB card but unless you have a firmware update you may need to find a standard not hdsc card My TT2 works fine with quality SDHC cards currently using a Kingston one.
I think the maps will just about fit on a 2gb card but you will need to remove TT home software from it.
FYI The new rider ( Urban or Pro) has only 2GB built in and you have no SD slot

Thanks for that.
Hopefully someone who has a TT Rider 1 will have done this before as I hear 4G SD cards are hard to find? Don't like the idea of not having an SD slot, how do you get music onto the Rider Pro if the maps are nearly 2G already?
cheers

With the cost of SD cards being so low I would get one of these.

Use windows to copy one disk to the other then use the new card to boot the rider from if it dont work youve lost £4.00

Downloaded the new maps but only the Western Europe as it's less then 1.9G so should fit my SD card...... been over an hour now and still writing to disk......

My Rider 1 was second hand and was obviously not running Rider software. I had way more functions on the Rider before it 'updated' my application software. Now I have no music so I'll have to go back to carrying an MP3 player. Was much easier when the Rider did everything. Now I will need to work out how to power the iTouch..... Wonder why TT don't add music to the rider application when it seems the hardware can do it?
But at least I have European maps again which will come in handy for the trip to France in May. Hopefully I will get to play with the Rider this weekend since we are due some nice weather.
Thanks exportman for the help

There are sites that have a doctored version of Navcore 9.2 that will run on the rider1 & 2 quite well Unfortunatly TomTom dont see fit to provide an official update since 7.9 I have seen on verious forums that 9.4 has been released for the rider in the USA and Canada but this certainly is not officially available in the EU.
I have sent a question to TomTom but all they did was say 9.4 was a release for traffic enable units ask for my system data.
