I have a TomTom One 30 series. I had never had many issues with this model (except for slow finding satellites). I decided to update maps today..... I signed on and connected my GPS. I updated the system, then purchased the updates for the maps. Everything downloaded well (or seemed to). I waited for the downloads to complete, the clicked the disconnect ico, and was given the OK to disconnect the TomTom from the computer, which I did.
Once i was disconnected, I noted that the screen was displaying the startup screen with the hard drive icon present on the left lower part of the screen and a red circle with a white X was flashing on the right lower side of the screen. . . .
I have not been able to get the device to startup since. I have tried the reset start more than once..... still no luck.
the device is a couple of years old, any advice ?

Possible memory fault.
First check the memory for errors with a disk check utility see this link for procedure.
If no errors are found "good". If errors are found but fixed "probably good"
Next try to reinstall the applicaiton, see link below.
You may have to run "update my device" several times to get it up to date because the server starts at an old version the first time and the builds on the old version to bring it up to date with each "update" until it becomes current.
You may also have to re-install the map again.

thats for the information, but i have decided to throw the TomTom away (destroy it) and buy a more user-friendly device..... I appreciate the effort, but its obvious that this is a lost cause......

Don't throw it away, donate it to me, I'll cover any shipping and handling.
