I just purchased a Start 45M GPS. It works fine, and gets me to where I need to go. It came with Lifetime Maps. I try to enter in my Promotion code into the Activation / Promotion code on TOMTOM Home, and it gives me the folowing message:
"The activation code you entered is valid but the associated product doesn''t work with your device type or with the version of the application you have installed on it. Please install the latest version of the device application by clicking ''Update my device'' in the main menu. Then enter your activation code again."
I try to follow the instructions as give above, but there is nothing to update.
Any suggestions on how to actually use the services I paid for?

Hi
I believe that the device requires the myTomTom Support Application instead of TomTom Home, the program can be downloaded from:
http://www.tomtom.com/getstarted
* Connect the device to the computer and the myTomTom program will automaticly search for all available updates. Always install the latest navigator version first prior installing the other remaining updates.
Activation Code
When the device is connected to the computer, and being logged in into your TomTom account then the website should also automaticly ask to register the device to the account.

I dowloaded MyTomTom, it downloaded some stuff, and that's all that happened. I disconnected the device, and connected it again a while later, and MyTomTom doesn't recognize the device is connected. TomTomHome seems to recognize my device just fine. I still can't use my LM promotion code.

Call CS at 866-486-6866 with the activation code. They can enter the information on their end.

I had the same issue and error message when I first tried to activate Lifetime Maps on the Tom Tom Start 45M. I resolved it by calling 866-486-6866 just as someone had mentioned on an earlier post. The operator manually entered the code onto their server side and everything was hunky dory. However, in my case, I discovered the Start 45M supposedly new product was actually a returned item that was resold. The vendor even tried to deceive me by putting the seal back on. It turned out product was activated with the code more than 90 days ago; TomTom would deem the offer expired. In the end, I got an exchange for a new one and the activation code worked flawlessly. So it could be your case too. Good luck.
