My tomtom one v1 is running ok,..BUT.........I was offered a new application update from 6.5 to 7;9., i loaded this,
I made a backup to software and system........then made sure i could restore, BUT in doing this, have lost my postcodes!!!!
They do not show in the backup so I extracted the zip file from tomtom.com opened it and added into the root of the backup files, reinstalled backup to device but error occured ' Not enough space for postal file'.......
...
This problem seems to not want to accept the larger application software that was offered, in accepting this it it has booted out my postcodes.....
.....
I have deleted all but one voice , cleaned down my device,
Are there any more files, ie licenses, that I could delete? .......That would give me some space that could reinstall after.
Where can I get the older application version that I replaced, 6.5 ?
Is the postal file that I extracted wrong for just the UK map?........8964 ko & 1 ko. (it says GB Postal)
The space I require is 9.5 and I have available 7.5.
I have been to Home software, but could not get an answer.... HELP.........

How much more space do you need.? If you look in the zip file that you extracted you should find that there are postal codes for areas that you do not need which you can delete.
Nederland.postal
Nederland..ver
Singapore.postal
Singaporepostal.ver
There is also a folder on the gps name "licences" you can delete all the files in this folder, that will gain a little more space.

Hi Traylaw, I have only 2 files in the postcodes, deleted others.
I need space , 9.5 for the zip file, opened, My system says only 7.5 is available.
I will delete the licence folder and see what happens, I am well backed up.
Also could I delete the languages via home software, my computer, from my device? Leaving only UK language?
Would I copy and paste the opened zip file direct into the device from 'my computor' ( home software) or do another restore?
When aquiring the tom tom, (as a lady who is 'past her sell by date' ) I didn't realise I would aquire this ability on a p.c!!!!!!!!!
Thanks.

I probably would not delete the licence folder just delete the files in the folder.... a folder doesn't take up but a tiny amount of space.
As for the "zip" folder, deleted the non UK files in the folder and copy the folder into the gps using "my computer".
For the language, I don't know if you can remove them individually. You can check by going to Home ->Manage My device -> Items on device..... From here you will see the various items on your gps, My gps does not show languages as a removable item but I have a different model.
Here are some other files and folders that might be on your gps that you can remove if they are there.
1 TomTom HOME Install.app - this folder can be deleted
2. InstallTomTomHOME.exe - this files can be deleted.
3. raster - you can delete the files in this folder but leave the folder.
Hopefully this will gain you the 2 mb you need.

Well, after spending what seems hours, I still am unable to add postcodes. Have done everything you suggested.
Question: If I delete the application settings from my device and save it in my computer,......... then backup and reinstall with the postcode file,zip.................., Then reinstall application, what are the possibilities of the application installation arranging the files?

No you don't want to do that.
How much more space do you need?

The file (post code) is 8.9.........the space in my computer is saying is:8.5. Any ideas?

Well you are getting closer.... Here are a few more things
1. Run a tomtom utility "Clear Flash" This is a utility you run on your pc (do not install it on the gps).
http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_
2. Run "Check Disk" this windows utility checks for errors on the memory and locates old lost files. It will place any lost
files taking up space in a folder it will create called "Found". If after running this function you find this folder on the gps
just delete the folder.
http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_
3. Look for a folder on your gps called "helpme" while I have never removed this folder, I have look at the contents and
it appears to be unnessary to the operation of the gps. Since you are backed up you can replace this folder if you
find any problems....But I don't beleive you will have any problems. On my gps this folder is over 3 MB.
4. Do not try to defrag on the flash memory drive in the gps, it will not increase any free space and has a potential to do more harm.
5. Are you using a computer or recorded voice. Computer voices consumes alot of space on the memory and recorded voices are tiny. Of course recorded voices can not speak street names.
6. There are also some splash screens that are not necessary but does make startup and shutdown pretter.
antitheftw.bmp or antitheft.bmp this is the guy with the red circle with the line thru it. that pops up at shutdown
lowbatteryw.bmp or lowbattery.bmp I have never seen this image pop up on a low battery condition
splashw.bmp or splash.bmp this is the startup screen
suspendw.bmp or suspend.bmp this is the shutdown screen

Just checked what happens if you remove the "helpme" folder.... No problem.... What you lose is, when you go to the "Help Me" icon and select "First Aid" or "Other Guides" it gps just says "No information is availale".
