I have a TomTom Start 20 and it lost it's GPS connection. I have seen there is an update needed so connected it to my computer via the My TomTomSA. It just shows a 'connecting' screen but never actually connects. I therefore can't download the update at all.
I have soft reset the device, tried different USB ports, even different computers but still it just sits there saying 'connecting'.
Any advice please?

Hi Paul, did you follow this guide: Solution for the GPS Signal issue? Did you clear the myTomTom cache? Which browser are you using?

Paul, great to hear it's working again. Could you please tell what exactly was the solution?

The first problem was connecting the device to the MyTomTom as it just kept saying 'connecting' all the time.
I use an Apple MacBook so I went into my System Preferences, then into the network settings. The TomTom had set itself up as a network so I deleted this and then added it again. It created a new network and then it connected fine to the MyTomTom website.
Then I could download the new update which I followed the instruction and did a soft rest outside. After about 10 minutes it locked on again and all seems to be well again.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I have the same problem with my newly purchased XL western Europe, the tomtom handset says it is connected to my computer and the computer recognizes it is connected but My TomTom says there is no device connected. I am doing this on a Windows system, does anyone know how to sort this?

Hi Asher, you need TomTom HOME instead. myTomTom only supports the newer TomTom models. See also here: http://discussions.tomtom.com/t5/TomTom-GO-800-100

I've tried all the steps listed in this discussion forum and I"m still not getting device to connect to My TomTom. I've cleared the catche half a dozen times and had to download a map update as many times. Everytime it downloads, the device will not connect and install the map. I've reinstalled the network driver, did a hard reboot of the device, did a hard reboot of my computer, tried a different computer, and I even tried to use a different internet connection and still nothing. This all started with trying to update a map that I had to call customer support to get to show up on My TomTom account. I'm VERY frustrated with this. I've called customer service multiple times for this and so far nothing has worked. What can I do?

Which browser are you using? Try Chrome or Internet Explorer 9 in compatibility mode for example. You could also try to completely disable your antivirus and firewall software temporarily.
