Favourite transfer

Hi,

When i get a new map all my favourites are deleted.  I used to be able to copy over the old mapsettings.cfg to the map folder on the device.  However recently it does nothing.  I have read I have to go through every favourite and convert to a POI which is just rubbish!  Anybody know if there are any plans to be able to keep my favourites when updating the map on my tomtom one 3rd edition?  Just seems so amateurish not to be able to keep favourites considering the update is every quarter.

When i comes to a new device this is something that would make me look at another company as i don't to keep readding my favourites or change them to POI.

Thanks

Re: Favourite transfer

Use POIEdit to open your old MapSettings.cfg file then Save As ov2 file format, name the file "_Favourites" (without the "") the underscore at the start of the file name is important as this forces the POI category to the top o fthe index making it much easier to locate - Mike

I suggest to have a closer look into the FAQ over there.

Re: Favourite transfer

As a long long retired septagarian ex IT I really appreciate the very short answer.

FAQ is what I usually look at first, BUT I have yet to see a FAQ list/area on the TomTom site.

Forgive me but when someone asks for help, surely that is what they require, you know, old fashioned assistance with a smile.

Thank You for you help.

I thought mikealder answered this to Morimur up here already. I'm sorry if I've been wrong but currently I do not know exactly what you want to know.

You can use your Favorites and Home Location in another map using the following steps:
.
  1. Copy the old mapsettings.cfg file from the old map directory into the new map directory;
  2. Connect your TomTom to a computer and run TomTom HOME;
  3. Run the function 'Operate my START/ONE/XL/GO';
  4. Calculate a route to one of the favorites and then close the emulator by clicking 'OK';
  5. Disconnect your device in TomTom HOME using 'Device > Disconnect Device' from the menu;
  6. Now you can use your Favorites and Home Location with your new map.
.
If you don't follow these steps and just copy the mapsettings.cfg file into the new map folder (without doing the steps inside TomTom HOME), chances are that your TomTom freezes at startup.

Re: Favourite transfer

Thanks for the replies. Turns out my old cfg file is empty so I will need to start from scratch. However Megalos's answer sounds a good one. I used to copy the old cfg file over the top of the one in the map folder and that worked. Now every time I disconnect the device and went back in it had reset it back to the default file with no favourites. I will try Megalos and mike's steps and prey it works. However I am very surprised that tomtom does not have a keep favourites option when updating maps without these steps. Not everyone will be technical enough to do this.

Re: Favorites transfer

GO 920. I have saved the mapsettings files for both of my maps, updated the maps and replaced the mapsettings.

The 'Old Files' remain until I correctly disconnect the 920, then I find they have been reset 'Empty'.

I have the old Files and Favorites on my computer and they are accepted until I disconnect.

How do I transfer the files?
