I think for a big company to open themselve up like this to their user commnuity is a brave move. The complexities of all the variables of a range of devices and all the different user wishes is considerable. I like the feeling that we are all in it together.

Re: TomTom Discussions - 1 year birthday

Well it would be brave if TomTom actually used it to address legitimate customer service issues.

But sadly they ignore the tough questions.

I'm sure they love sycophantic posts though.

Well I was aiming for nostalgic. Trying to get back to the customer/manufacturer relationship that was my initial experience of TT. Not averse to bum massaging, but only if it gets me something.

Re: TomTom Discussions - 1 year birthday - Please help

Hello, I am brand new here and do not see which thread is most appropriate to answer my question.  Here goes.

I want a GPS unit that allows me to tell the unit to restrict my route to use freeway only or other words to use the most freeway available to destination.  I presently have a older Garmin and it continually stops my freeway use 2 exits before my destination and routes me thru back roads.  There is no way to adjust this feature or turn it off.  This is unacceptable.  Any suggestions or comments?  Is this a common occurrence with TomTom?

Re: TomTom Discussions - 1 year birthday - Please help

Hi Cosimo52,

the correct subforum would be the category of your device.

For being routed using major roads as preferred roads the best way is to select calculating the fastest route in the planning preferences. Also avoid unpaved roads and the other's (ferries, toll roads, etc.) you'll have to decide whether you'd like to have them enabled or not. If planning for fastest route the device looks first at the time needed and secondly at the distance. Therefore larger roads have a higher priority than smaller roads as usually traffic is faster on the larger roads.

That option is the best you'll get.

Regards
Lars.

Re: TomTom Discussions - 1 year birthday

Thx Lars I do not presently own a TomTom but am considering switching from my Garmin. This is why I was not certain where to post. Price is not a consideration but the ability to have my GPS most closely mimic Map Quest or some other mapping service which in my experience takes me directly to my destination without constantly telling me to exit the freeway 2 exits prior to my target address. My Garmin 880 has done this to me for years now and I'm done with it. Last straw was Saturday. I need a Best Buy. I program in the address. It's 2 miles from my hotel. I follow my Garmin's lead. At the intersection were the address is on this cross street Garmin tells me to turn right. I'm looking at Best Buy on the corner on the left yet my device was taking me around another block. I confirmed the address with the store in case that changed. It had not. The device just gives wacked directions.
Is there a TomTom unit that can meet my needs? Regardless of the price. Or are these occurances common throughout all GPS units regardless of brand?
Again any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx
