Are the speed camera positions in France simply held in a file that could be deleted manually by way of a file explorer. I run Linux and can see the various files held on the TomTom, it's just the updating software that does not appear to run on Linux.
Hi Witsinfr,
Yes, the speed camera files can be found in the map folder on your device.
The map folder can be called Europe, Europe_2GB, Europe_West, France etc. Inside this folder you will find a number of files. Do not delete any files other than these three:
Radar_FR_TomTom.ov2
Radar_FR_TomTom.dct
Radar_FR_TomTomOv2.ver
Some devices may also have a Radar_FR_TomTom.tlv file which can be deleted as well.
New devices released after September 2010 will not have access to the file system and as such you will temporarily need a computer running Windows or a Mac computer to remove the files through MyTomTom.
I hope this helps ![]()

Hi Ditte
Many many thanks for that, it'll certain help achieve the new regulations being put in place. I'll report back later after having done it to confirm that this has worked.
Cheers.

Hi Ditte
How to remove the speedcameras for France in myTomTom? Don't see the option in the 'add community section'.
Thanks in advance

Hi Ditte,
When connecting to the web site, there is no update available through the "Search for new elements" menu in the "MyTomTom" interface. The status on the page says that my device is up to date and that there is no outstanding update ...
So, how can I get the updated database (without any speed camera for France) ?
I already disabled the alerts for all types of speed cameras and also disabled the service but it's not enough to be compliant with the new law as the position of the speed cameras have to be removed from the database.
Regards,
Mimile

Thanks Ditte
I like to ask one more question:
Many people may not be aware about the law in France regarding the speed cameras. The France Speed Camera file will be empty now so it doesn't contain any speed camera locations. However the alerts still have to be disabled when travelling in France?
When not being a member on the forums then those users may not be aware to also temporary disable the speed cameras onto the device itself.
What if someone is unaware about and leave the speed camera alerts enabled when being in France?
Thanks in advance![]()
PS: Can't TomTom coöperate with the French government so the police,.. are aware that no French speed camera alerts are officially installed onto the devices?![]()

Am I missing something? How can there be an alert if there are no locations?

Hi Stefan,
Yes, speed cameras need to be diabled on the device. We have sent emails to all our French customers to inform them about this new legislation and how they disable the speed cameras to be compliant with the law.
If you do not disable the speed cameras on your device when travelling in France, you risk getting fined.
And thanks for the advise ![]()
All the best and drive safe,
Ditte

I live in France and I didn't get an email. I follow the forum so it is not a problem for me personally.
