Re: No GPS signal

Just fix the **bleep** thing! I've gone through your "Mandatory Update" over and over again and still the stupid thing wont work. I am so frustrated with this thing. Is it possible to clear the software from the GPS and have it reinstall because I am sure whatever virus it has in it is causing the update not to work? And I love how you are trying to blame a "third party device" for this issue. You designed and built it - you are responsible for it. If you have a bug free model please send it to me with the label to send the bad one back in the same reusable box.

...and don't bleep me out. I didn't use any swear words, D A M N is an OK word when talking about your product that doesn't do what it was purchased to do.

Re: No GPS signal

Try this:

1. Hold the on/off button until it reaches the info screen (where info related to the device is displayed);

2. After entering the info screen press the on/off button 3 times quickly, it should be 3 presses within one second);

3. The device restarts and only shows a cogwheel, it just entered in the 'recovery mode';

4. Make sure to connect the TomTom device to the computer (so it can download the 'last known good application' for your device);

5. Wait for a moment -- wait until you see picture of a TomTom (red x) and a laptop -- then switch off the TomTom unit;

6. Then reset the device, the device should start up normally;

7. Wait 5 minutes.

Then you can try this as well, to make sure all up to date:

Try to disable your antivirus and firewall, use Firefox, and make sure that your computer is not going into stand-by or similar.

Clear the cache before each update attempt. Also could do a soft reset before and after the update.

Make sure you have the latest Adobe Flash Player and Java installed.

In case the device looks like hung during the update or the counter stopped, just leave it. It will be fine in a few minutes.

Re: No GPS signal

I've tried all of the suggestions. Nothing has worked so far - even those of you that have written since my post. I guess Tom Tom should have come up with a REAL solution before posting it! Should have tested the product before going to market with it.

Re: No GPS signal

Well, I have tried everything you have suggested. Software claims to be the latest and greatest the 11.037 etc. Did I miss a step? Am I supposed to rub my belly and pat my head at the same time?

Re: No GPS signal

11.037 is the latest. That's the good news. Have you heard the drum roll, and have you tried it outdoors?

Re: No GPS signal

OK, looks like its working now. Thanks for all the help. I went to the GPS status page on power up. A satellite popped up almost immediately right next to the N for North, then another almost center, which immediately dissapeared, the clock then updated to the Universal time clock - Greenwich mean time in London I assume since I am in Michigan USA and it is showing 6 hours difference (not the actual 5 hours for British Summer time),  the coordinates then updated and suddenly about half a dozen new satellites appeared - I am so thankful the Russians didn't shoot them out of the skies!

Re: No GPS signal

Buying the VIA1535TM was the biggest mistake I've made.  Should have bought the Garmin.  Ever since the update that was recommended, my gps hasn't been the same.  I have to press and hold the power button until I get the drum sound EVERYTIME I need to use it.  It's a real pain in the a**.   Would definitely not recommend this line of gps to anyone.
