Playing with computers was probably a lot more dependable in the "way before Windows" era! Even Windows 3.11 was far more dependable than W95 and newer versions. It may also have been more dependable than the Macintosh O.S. of the same period (older mac users will remember how frequently the "bomb" error message used to appear with Photoshop, Illustrator and QuarkXPress). Things have been improving since W2K, but there were quite a few fiascoes with XP and Vista initially.
I'm not as surprised as you are by this, but it might improve dramatically if MyTomTom were to work with Linux, based on the incredibly dependable (in my opinion) Unix ... but you might be the expert in that field.

Even if you D/L without the device connected, why don't you get a notification that it's complete?
This is the sort of thing I mean, Kex.
It's just basic stuff.

Updated my US software last night. Now I cannot use my FAVORITES in my routes, without reassigning them to a icon.
Why? This is MUCH more UNuser friendly.
How can I roll back my software version to the prior version?
This upgrade is the 'Vista' of TomTom.

Thats news to me, Ray. There is an extra step now, but those who use the most frequent destinations menu on start up will be familiar with it. It's the same menu that has always appeared if you modify your Start-up settings, by choosing "Ask for a destination", instead of "Continue where I left off" or "Show the Main Menu". The trick may be to only set five frequent destinations, so that the sixth icon is "Other favorites", and links you directly to the whole list of existing favorites. At least, that's what it does for me.
What's also new is that when you choose "Drive to" from the Main Menu, and then "Favorite" from the "Drive to" menu, you get that same list of most frequent destinations.
Perhaps your issue arose since you had no most frequent destinations defined. In which case, I would advise you to:
All other favorites will be assigned to the sixth (or less) icon, in the same list as they were before, so you don't have to assign them all to an icon. In fact, defining more than five destinations as frequent destinations will mean having to navigate between two screens, instead of just one. The maximum allowed is eleven, in any case (so two screens in total).

Thank you.
I will give it a try tomorrow. From what I noticed today, the icons don't have much of a description to them.
Many of my Favorites are actually'waypoints' on various streets, to force my driving along a certain route, and not just a destination location such as a store or address.
I preferred the long name of the favorite, which is more descriptive than an icon which designates nothing to the actual Favorite name or location. Drop the icons, or maybe an option. I like the long names of the Favorites. On some I give a number for easier sorting, and to keep those at the top of the list.
How about being able to choose multiple 'favorites' at a single choice, instead of continually 'addiing' another point.
That is what Magellan did and it was very convenient.

Just upgraded, first experiences:
- the upgrade (install) process did not work, I had to disconnect TT and force a manual reboot to finally make it work
- first thing I checked is if Weather Forecast is working now (it did not show the correct data when switching between different places). It now works finally! No longer the Weather Forecast of Amsterdam when I have Rome as destination for example.
- very little documentation on how to use the new features. I can imagine a lot of people get confused not seeing their Favorites list anymore (it is hidden on another page)
- Overall feeling is that a lot has changed (which might be a good thing, just let's see) but information about it is lacking
Now back to checking out some of the new features...

The icon-based frequent destination feature is not new. There's just a bug in the new software where frequent destinations turns on and the normal shut-off process is broken.
I love the feature, and have used it ever since app 9.x on my GO740.
Until Tomtom fixes the shut-off bug, here is a workaround to disable this screen:
In the new icon-based favorites screen, go to "configure", say "yes" to the frequent destinations question, and deselect each icon other than Home. Then return to driving view. This should remove the entire screen the next time you go to the favorites menu.
Note that the above step will delete any favorites that shared the same name with frequent destinations that you deselected. If you want to preserve them, copy the favorites.ov2 file to your computer in MyTomtom's "add community content" feature before doing the step above. Then do the step above, confirm the new screen is gone, then copy the favorites.ov2 file back.
If you ever want to enable this screen again, go to settings -> startup settings -> ask for a destination -> and then say "yes" to the frequent destinations question

In my case with a Via 120 the new "auto turn on" feature works perfectly, and it's actually really nice. No time limit of any kind.
I don't think what you are seeing is supposed to be that way.
Yes, this morning the device switched on just fine - so it seems to work, i guess ![]()
BUT after a minute or two it started to reboot itself - AGAIN. The reboot was related to the LIVE services, IF the device could not get a connection within some minutes --> reboot.
I did again the factory settings reset --> ok. Weird! (Also did a full reset - just for sure)
So, I'm just waiting what happens when I next time switch my device on - do I end to the same operations again and again and ...
