Figured out how to update maps with old software version (not 9.4) Load update and new maps. Go to manage my xxl (or whatever) save the maps to the computer then delete the maps from device. Go to back up and restore. Restore your old program. Go to add trafic, voices etc
Go to items on my computer add the new maps. A pain but Actually works!

Another way I found...
I found a backup of the computer from about a year ago with a older version of Tomtom home. Replace new tomtom home with older version, plug in your TT GO. I then had an optional download of 9.4. so i did all downloads except 9.4...

It is all vey well saying we are in complete control of our data but what you failed to mention in this posting is that if the driver opts out of giving permission you stop the updates of live services and speed cameras to his device. In other words you practice 'Big Brother ' tactics and don't care about the drivers.

Your Tom Tom only works occasionally with windows 7. I had the same problem about 6 months ago and Tom Tom told me to go back to a previous operating system with an older PC. I didn't have one. They are churning out devices and taking money from customers and not thinking about having the equipment compatible with Windows.

After using the new status bar for several days now, it occurs to me that such a major reorganization of the information display presents a real safety hazard. I've been using TomTom devices for about 6 years now, and they've always been the same. (I now have four; one in each of two cars, and one on each of two motorcycles.) Now, suddenly, the information is shuffled around, and I find myself having to take my eyes off the road for far too long to find what I'm looking for on the status bar. This is not a good thing, and I have no doubt it presents the possibility of TomTom being held liable in the case of a user having an accident because of this change.
Also, the two units in my cars are IQ-Routes units (XL 340TM and XXL 540TM), upon which the update was forced. The two units on the motorcycles are older units (One XL and XL 330S), which did not get the "upgrade." So now I also have the situation where not all my devices have the same display, which will cause me to continue to have to "hunt" for the information on the display, rather than eventually getting used to the new layout.
I can see big problems ahead for TomTom over this.

Supposedly fixes the sim card problem for UK LIVE models that 9.400 broke.
