Compatibility

The TomTom App isn't compatible with the iPod 4th generation. iPod (2nd and 3rd generation are supported). When you have a device with iOS5 then the App v1.8 will not work on that version. TomTom will work in the next version of TomTom App for iPhone, which will be available soon. It appears that the App v1.9 will be for the iPhone only.
Car Kit
The App and car kit have to be bought seperated, they aren't available in a bundle.
Device decision
Since iPod 4th generation isn't yet supported, i'd suggest to purchase a navigation device.![]()
Top Gear Live VS Go Live 1005
Advantages 1005
Recommends driving breaks; warns when approaching places of worship or schools; unpaved road warnings; reminds you not to leave device in car; hides map view above a selected speed; reminds you which side of road to drive when abroad.
Map of Europe 45 countries instead of Map of UK and Ireland (Europe has the UK and Ireland included)
Advantages Gear
The decision is up to you. ![]()

After owning a Go300 for years and more recently an XXL, I too wanted to utilize my iPod Touch 4th Gen as my primary Sat Nav. I also was concerned about buying the Cradle & App only to find it didn't work!
My "Pod" has a hard shell clip on back case which stays on it permanently and are available from a certain on-line auction site for a couple of pounds.
Bought Cradle first and downloaded the free TomTom Car Kit Tool App. For the first few times the "Pod" + Case is a very tight fit. ALWAYS FIT THE BOTTOM FIRST AND GENTLE PRESS THE TOP INTO POSITION !
When removing the iPod GENTLY PRIZE THE TOP OFF FIRST!. I use my thumbs on the bracket's roller and pointing fingers on the rear of the Pod.
The main point here is to be very aware of not stressing the iPods built in connector at all costs!!
After 3-4 uses the Bracket loosens off a little and inserting / removing the Pod becomes easy enough.
(I recommend you do 5 inserts and removals indoors before sticking the cradle in the car)
Anyway, after all this the Pod is rock solidly seated for perfect Cradle connection, doesn't come free over bumpy roads and doesn't require any cardboard etc.
Reception was perfect so bought the latest App at it runs fine on iOS-5.1.
Route Planning speed is lightning fast with a Cambridge to inner London route taking 1-2 seconds to plot.
