Map Routing Problem.

[ Edited ]

We needed to go to Ipplepen Village Hall (TQ12 5SB) from Exeter yesterday.

All was fine until we got to Newton Abbot.

Instead of keeping us on the A381 Totnes Road, it took us around back streets and lanes.

I had selected 'Fasted Route', and this certainly wasn't.

Note that these back roads have road humps on them.

It did the same on the way back which was worse since we didn't know the roads.

I don't want others to have to face this problem.

Next time, I'll be using a Google Map to do that journey as I can't trust the TomTom Sat Nav to get the route right.

Not what I expect from a Industry Leading Product :smileysad:

Best Wishes

Hi Leona, if you plan the route again (from Exeter to TQ12 5SB) and do a demo of the route, does it plan via the A381 road instead? Or do you still experience problems? Try switching off IQ Routes and see if it helps. When I try to use the online route planner, it gives me the proper route: http://goo.gl/fStMp

Thank you, sorry I thought i had map and app version in my signature,

I have map version 9.43.

I have turned off IQ Routes as it has given us problems before, TomTom seems to have a habit of taking us onto back roads and side lanes, and I'm frankly fed up of it! (sorry).

I also tried planning it online via Tom Tom this morning to see if this would happen and I did take me the wrong way.

I have submitted a Map Share map fault,

Its just as you come off the Penn Inn roundabout it tries to take you off onto Forde Road and through Wolborough instead of carrying on the A381.

I've just set the route up again, and yes its done the same again, I'll try an attach a photo of the errtomtom.jpg

Coming Home, was even worse.

This route is slow and at night, out right Dangerous!

I mean, someone tell me what all that is about? at 11pm at night, we don't need to be going around the houses!

Please Fix it!

Best Wishes

Re: Map Routing Problem.

9.43 is the app/software version, not the map.

Re: Map Routing Problem.

That map is over two years old. Might be part of the issue. What do you have when you enter the same departure and arrival points here:

http://routes.tomtom.com/

If this one offers a considerably different route, then it might be due to the old map. If it is the same or very similar, then routing problem.

Yes Leona may have maps that are 2 years old but did say she planned to route online with TomTom and from what i can gather gives the same result as her 2 year old maps.

Ergo the modern ones (which i assume are the online ones) are no different

Re: Map Routing Problem.

Ooops. My bad. Read it earlier, but just came back later and didn't read it again :smileysad: Then it is definitely not the map's issue. Just ignore.

Re: Map Routing Problem.

Indeed just to clarify, I planned the route online with TomTom as well and it gave the same route.

See the attached screen shot, it should plan the route via East Street A381 not divert.

@Megalos Even from the link you gave the route is incorrect, unless its displaying differently to you than me, below is what I see and In My Opinion its wrong, as the route it takes you, takes you through narrow back lanes with speed humps, it would be much quicker to stay on the A381.

Google Maps and the AA take you the correct route, so I do not understand why TomTom suggests this.

But however, I noticed that it went the correct way on the reverse journey, which is different from my unit.

Here is how the route 'should' be, see the difference?

These roads have not changed in 2 years though.

Best Wishes
