Emery Down to Lyndhurst navigation (UK)

Hi,

Can anybody out there help me out on this...?

Go Live 820 (Map UK v8.85) navigates a 6 mile route from Emery Down to Lyndhurst rather than the 0.8 mile route that any sane person would take (onto the A35 at The Swan Inn).

There are no blocked roads or turning limitations.  Have tried blocking all but the 0.8 mile route, but then it just can't find a route at all.  It's like the road has a gap in it but I can't find one to manually overide.

Have also noticed that the TomTom website route planner does the same.

Thanks

Martin

Easiest answer: TT c.cked it up.

TT online planner even can't find the address, when you type it correctly.

With incorrect spelling, it offers the correct one...

Assume in TT's database the road on the shortest way is considered as private or blocked, therefore detour "offered". Yet can't work out the round trip in Lyndhurst...

Re: Emery Down to Lyndhurst navigation (UK)

Yes, and starting south of Silver Street navigates the long route but starting south of the next junction (Unamed Road) navigates the short route.  No turning restrictions are showing for the "Unamed Road" junction, the road appears to be continuous and the road type is Minor.  Can I overide this on my SatNav?

My previous Mio didn't have this problem (but it didn't have HD Traffic).

Re: Emery Down to Lyndhurst navigation (UK)

By the way, have you tried after the route calculation to do the VIA this-and-that road option?

I will drop the link to Shorty, hopefully he can get this one sorted for the next update.

Re: Emery Down to Lyndhurst navigation (UK)

I'll certainly put this in an MSR report for you but will also contact the Production Team Head for the UK,by mail.

I have a similar situation from my home to our (RSA-local HQ).  It's closer to the central (soon to be tolled) highway from my gate than it is via the other better highway un-tolled.  So I initiate my route at the Western end of our street.

In your case however it's not a question of virtually the same distances but could be one of Road classification.  If you use Fastest Time then normally the router will choose the highest category of roadway keeping you there for as long as possible.  Using Shortest Distance may cure the problem.  I have sometimes found in cities that a combination of fastest and shortest t works quite well.

Would you please try the different algorithm and let us know.  If it still routes the round-about way then it means that there is a discontination along that way or a difference in classification..  Can happen but it's a c....k up as Zsoldt put it and we'll have to go into the raw detail to create the fix.

I regard the internal lanes in the gap as suspicious (Bournemouth to Emery Downs)..  Are there gates perhaps at each end.  It could be a road classification error in that the through road is not an alley but an acceptable road not encumbered by gates and so forth but is shown as such in the map.

Re: Emery Down to Lyndhurst navigation (UK)

Shorty,

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried different algorithms as you requested... Shortest gives the long route but Walking and Cycle give the short route.

There is a cattle grid (always open to traffic) around where the problem happens, so this may well be on the map as a gate and be causing the issue.  I don't have any problems navigating over any other cattle grids in the New Forest.

Cheers

MartinC

Re: Emery Down to Lyndhurst navigation (UK)

That could well be the cause of the problem Martin and perhaps the others that you've encountered are not marked as a non-navigable digital gate.  Let me check with the UK Production Team and get back to you.
