I purchased a Tomtom VIA 1500 TM from Wal-Mart yesterday, 05/06/2011 and when I try to active the promotional code as directed by the paperwork; the system tells me, "The activation code you have entered is not valid. Please try again." What can I do to rectify this? Thank you.

Form the Announcement section (on Right of the main Forum page): It's currently not possible to download maps using the Latest Map Guarantee on the following devices: GO 1000 and 2000 Series, Via Series and Sony XNV. We're working to resolve the issue.
There is unfortunately no ETA as to resolution.

Or in other words; I would have been better off going with the competition.

It really depends on how quickly TT is able to resolve the problem and push the resolution to the user community. As an outside observer it seems that the new MyTomTom device management process is certainly having a number of difficulties.

Hi, there,
thanks for the information.
Got a 2535 WTE for my travel in the US - thought new GPS with lifetime maps would be cheaper than continously buying new maps for an old device.
So just got my GPS from Amazon.com and wanted to activate the lifetime map updates and also get error message "activation code not valid" ![]()
Serial no. of my device starts with SM and mTT homepage says that latest map guarantee is not yet available for this series - however to my it is not really clear if that connects to the lifetime map updates? After all in the myTomTom section it's clearly stated that lifetime map updates work, now?
Will try to get clarification from TT
Cheers
