Map purchasing

I have a tomtom model 1ex00 

my partner has to go to Belgium this week end from the UK and so I downloaded the maps but when we turn it on just says busy planning route waiting for valid gps signal.....

and so my question is should it work in UK or do you have to be in Belgium for it to work? As hes now wanting to go buy a new one as someone here said there's works once its on from UK?

Thanks any advice would be great as we have only ever used our tom tom in UK and don't have a clue

Hi,

if you've only purchased and installed a map of Belgium it will only work after getting to Belgium. If there are still two maps installed on the device there's a possibility in the preferences menu to switch between maps. Just select the UK one until you leave the UK and then switch to the Belgium one. That way you'll always be able to get navigation instructions.

With a new device I recommend getting a Europe version as you'll have all of Europe's countries in one single map afterwards and won't need to swap between maps but can plan a route i.e. from UK to Italy and routing already starts at home.
