Free update maps

A year ago I bought a new Tomtom (Via 120) with 2 year free map upgrade.

For about one year I thought my system was updated when I login on MyTomtom. Then I found out this was not the case as the cable between my tomtom and my computer was not working.

Luckily I was able to get a new cable from Tomtom. Good service I must say.

Now my system is updating correct, however my free map update does not work anymore as I am having my system more than 3 month. I can not activate it anymore although I paid for it when buying the system.

As the support of Tomtom degraded to pages with only answers on questions I have no possibility to get an answer how I can update my maps. (Yes, I can buy the service again :-) ).

Anybody an idea how I can get my updates? Ben.

Re: Free update maps

You need to call customer services, they will activate your 2 years service, and the updates should be available from there onwards.

Re: Free update maps

Zsolt. Tried to find a phone number on their website, but nowadays they do not support their service anymore using a support desk on the phone. I also tried to contact through an email address I had in my mail, but also here the response is that they do not give support through this email connection anymore. The website only refers to their questions and answers.

Must admit I have not gone through all answers to find maybe a phone number in there.

Thanks for your help so far. Ben.

Re: Free update maps

Thanks this link actually helped me a lot.

Went down that route before, but then entered the device code. This then brings you not into the pages where you have the contact us link.

Great, have send email and hope they will approve my request.

Ben.

Re: Free update maps

I bought the TomTom because I was told I could get free updates for the life of my TomTom. But now when I go to get the updates it tells me their is a charge for them. Why?

Re: Free update maps

If you bought a model with a M (lifetime map) designation then you should have that feature. There should be a card in the package of material labelled DO NOT DISCARD. Call CS at 866-486-6866 with the code on the card and they can activate on their end.

Re: Free update maps

I have not updated my maps for a few years. I understand that there might be free corrections to the existing maps by other users but I do not know how to get them. I would appreciate a hint. Thanks.

Re: Free update maps

You have to join the Map Share Corrections on the device (or via TomTom HOME). But that one is not equal to a proper map update.

Re: Free update maps

Because my TT GO740TM Live died and my insurance company says it is not cost effective to repair and not my fault, here in the US, they have refunded my purchase price plus 5% up chg if I take a Amazon gift card instead of a check.  That is not a problem since I buy from Amazon all the time and had purchased my TT740 via their site in the first place.

Problem I have is here in US TT no longer offers TM and Live services all in the same unit  ANNNND no sd card slot.  I lose a lot by death of my 740 it appears.  Have contemplated buying new old stock  TT GO740TM Live unit, but like the new 5" displays and dislike all the TT740 screen registration errors I read about here in this community.  Mine had starter suffering same and then died.

I have basically settled on the TT GO2535 model, but would appreciate some guidance so I don't make a stupid decision.

1.  I had been having a pile of "TT Live Server not available, try again" issues.  Does the problem still remain?

2.  We are taking trip to Europe this Summer for 45th anniv, but probably not again for years.  Would appreciate votes for one of the following choices.

a.  Buy GO2535M Live edition, with annual Live services, HD Traffic in US and Canada (due to sim card and cell phone company I expect) and Map guarantee but no Traffic Services outside US and Canada.  Only 4GB memory NO SD CARD.  Can buy Euro map for trip (an extra $65 and no renewals included.)

b.  Buy GO2535TM WTE edition.  8GB mem installed.  US, CAN, MEX, EU Maps installed.  NO SD CARD.  No live services.  No HD Traffic or US on line services.  Traffic and Map update guarantee, but only for US & Canada?  Not sure if the Euro map installed in the device will receive the one time current map update guarantee or not, even though TT says will apply to all maps mftr installed in the device when device is first turned on.  (US, CAN and Mex maps are apparently only ones that will be supported by free quarterly upgrades but it wouldn't bother me to know that my Euro map was at least current as of Feb 2013.)

c.  Buy New-Old stock TT GO740TM Live, reinstall my 8GB MicroSD card, buy EuroMap before trip and pass on the whizbang new 5" TT devices to see what improves in a couple of years.

All Help is welcomed.

Thanks.

Chuck
