I received a Via 1405 for Christmas, 2011 and registered it in Jan, 2012. I also received a free map update dated 11/2011. I have since used my device in St. John's NL and I'm told that many of the newer streets constructed in the last two years are on my maps. Therefore, I considered my device well up to date in maps.
Recently I tried to program an address on Water Street in St. John's and discovered that, according to my device, Water Street doesn't exist. Now, as most newfoundlanders know, Water Street in St. John's, NL is THE OLDEST STREET IN NORTH AMERICA. The very first maps of St. John's show Water Street. My device has an obvious defect in its maps.
With this information I called Support who then confirmed that Water Street is on the newest map and that I'd have to purchase a new map. If it didn't show a street newly constructed in the last year or so or a side street that very few people know about I'd understand that I'd have to purchase a revised map to see them. This however is Water Street in St. John's, equivalent to Bloor Street in Toronto! It's a case of purchasing a device with a defective map and having to purchase an updated map to override the defect. That makes no sense.
Can someone please confirm that the USA_Canada v880 maps have Water Street in St. John's, NL Canada. Thank you.

You mean the latest 890 map, I think.
Anyway, on a device I have here with the 890 USA_Canada_Mexico map, indeed Water Street does exist on it.

Thank you for your prompt response. How would I get my defective map replaced? Support says I need to purchase a map. I suggest that if the product is defective the company should replace it for free. How can I achieve this?

I no longer have an 880 map available to check. It's also present on the 885 map I have on another device. You may want to call CS back at 866-486-6866 and ask for a supervisor.
Ask that a proper map be added to your account.
