Re: loading new US only

[ Edited ]

I am disappointed in your response and lack of understanding of the problem. I expected more from support than this.

I'm use to doing backups, wish I had thought about it before I updated....still the jist of what your saying Is you can't trust that the update is compatible with win 7.  That is the most common version of Windows used by people today. But if you say that, my argument would be that I was prompted by the tomtom home which said that my current map/database was out of date since it was 2009.   I think the newest database which is version 8753613 was not made for win7....with no backup to reference I just assumed get a new model.....but i don't think it will be a tomtom...I never would have removed the old and update the new release if it was erroring out ....the emulation monitor crashes the unit everytime it is clicked on..... thanks for all the help very good instruction ...but another DB will just mean more money wasted...  I am not impressed with Tom Tom or its support.

I think I am due a refund as since the update for that model was the update on my device.   I would have rather just left it alone as it was perfectly fine.  Your softward hosed my TomTom and the least you could do is refund my money and tell me how to get it back to normal.

We, the users on the forums are not working for TomTom. Making a full backup is not because of not trusting the operating system, its to be able to restore to a previous working state in case a file becomes corrupt or when a issue appears after performing a update.

I'm using Windows 7, never had any problems with the operating system. A backup is made just as precaution. Its like making a full backup image of the computer including all the installed software and settings. In case a virus appears, or the computer doesn't start after installing a program,.. then its possible to restore the operating system in less then a hour, instead of having to reinstall from scratch.

Its normally not required to purchase another map, since TomTom Support is able to add the correct map to the account when necessary at no extra costs.

In the previous post, when following the steps will help you to install the newest map onto the device.:smileywink:

Re: loading new US only

That's it bluesman, We're just TomTom users here to lend a hand based on what we've already tried and succeeded with...We're not TomTom employee's,and most definately, none of this is our software, and most definately,as another owner of TomTom's and not an employee,I won't be refunding you any money. Just so we understand each other, this isn't

TomTom Support,this is a user based forum.If you want to rip into someone here's your link;

http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/home/?Lid=4&locale=en_US

The steps Stefan outlined are tried already for other users that have devices the same as yours that failed during the download stage and either locked up or,as in your case, aren't recognized....

I also use Win7 with IE9 so I've been through the configuration issues that show up when updating pnd's,both on TomTom Home and MyTomTom....

The link I suggested earlier will take you to instructions on how to restore recognition for you gps.Another for device failire to boot http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13349/kw/device%20not%20recognized/p/141%2C2029

Best of luck, you're on your own now..contact TomTom support...for any further help/advice

Re: loading new US only

Hi Bluesman,

Just to chime in with regards to TomTom Employees. They are clearly marked as such on the forum, either by Community Manager, Staff (like me) or TomTom Employee. All other users are just that, users that try to help if they can.

I can see a USA map on your account, so go ahead and try the suggestions from Stefan and Laz45, they're both excellent in troubleshooting and have helped many other users with similar issues. :smileyhappy:

All the best,

Ditte :smileyhappy:

Re: loading new US only

[ Edited ]

Well Ive restored and and reinsrtalled the 350xl and tomtom home  software no change no gps no boot ,This could have been all avoided if the true staff would just put the map that download distroyed and we would have been done with it

I am 55 years old I worked and was incharge of the backups and restores for over 40,000 servers in the US/Virision for a little over 10 years....so it's not some mad kid venting .....

When I was admin we had servers merrioring software for admin to grant acess to a link ....Problem solved

\

Oh well I guess it's different with tomtom, we as admin would do what ever was needed to get the cosumers data back.

Signed disapointed

Oh by the way I went to chat and they said they needed proff of the install or sale of the device when its right there in the data base under my account...dhuuu ya jus got to laugh

Re: loading new US only

This link may help some.It seems specific to the issue your gps is having...run through the steps here and let me know what you come up with. Even if it's just a little further or the same..it' will help me narrow down what may have happened and figure out why your gps is stopping and won't boot....

That's what we're basically talking about correct ?? it stops during the boot process and won't continue.....

Also,When this happened, were you just downloading and installing or did you go into the gps drive and delete files/folders?If that's the case we may need to actually get the firmware reinstalled so it can get a map....

http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2053/kw/device%20frozen/related/1

Let's not bicker about this blues...I can't/won't help if you're going to go this way about it...running through the forum and hijacking threads isn't going to get any "higher ups or Admins to escalate your thread...this isn't TomTom support. If you keep doing that the only thing you'll accomplish is people turning their backs on you,we're trying to help, you have to help yourself here also...

Let me know what you come up with...if you can be civil about this we CAN get this boiled down to an answer and either fix it or determine if it's something beyond our abilities here.....

Re: loading new US only

I just noticed something else, you have an XL350M right? IF the friend you purchased it from didn't register it you should be able to do so and get free map updates....it's an "m"...you wrote that you purchased map and sounds...or add ons...I'm

not clear on this, remind me....Also,your device doesn't have a card slot, 2GB internal...did you notice or should I say do you know what size the map update is?
