Re: i accidentally deleted my map while trying to up date my xl 340tm

So what they are telling you to do is to delete all maps off of your device and computer? Doesnt sound to smart because when you want to get those maps back they are nowhere to be found. Put em on a thumbdrive then delete them.

Also, you can only get your US maps back if you have an update serivce that you have to pay for? Thats crap. I want my 2010 maps back, non-updated.

to resetyour TomTom device, do the following:

  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.
  2. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for at least 15 to 20 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.
  3. Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

Where to find the reset button

The reset button is on the bottom of your TomTom device.

Can you copy and paste the error code on the forums? Click on more details when you receive the error code.

Re: I accidentally deleted my map while trying to up date my xl 340tm

[ Edited ]

I have a copy of the map on my hard drive, it says USA_and_Canada.zip.  I can copy and paste that file to the tomtom but it still says no map when I turn on the device.  Does anyone know where I need to put that file for it to work, or do I need to unzip the files into a folder or something?  Thanks for any help you guys can give.

*edit*  There is a folder by the same name as the file and I put the .zip file in that folder, but still says no map...

You have to unzip the file first.

To manual install maps, please read the following article:

* There's also a important step: activate the map. :smileywink:

Re: I accidentally deleted my map while trying to up date my xl 340tm

there isn't an activation file in the .zip file....but I am extracting all the files into the folder and I'll let you know how things turn out....is there somewhere I can download an activation file if this doesn't work?  Thanks for the help.

The activation file would be in the zip file or is a seperate file thats downloaded together with the map to the maps folder.

Its also possible that something went wrong during the downloading and the activation file wasn't downloaded with the map. You can try to re-download the map in TomTom Home when the maps folder is empty and the previous map is installed on the device.
