XL IQ looping after installing POI

I have tried to install one of the standard POIs available from my  TomTom home. Install appeared to go ok but after disconnecting device it now is looping. I have removed the POI and the config file as advised by the support group, but still looping.

Can anyone suggest how to get back to normal?

Thanks

Re: XL IQ looping after installing POI

Connect to Home. Use the emulator to add a favourite. Disconnect the unit properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.

See if that helps.

Re: XL IQ looping after installing POI

@RobA: Try this if the above didn't work:

Try to run the Clear Flash Tool 3 times:

http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6178/

Further steps if no luck:

Try to do a soft reset first. Either a pin hole on the bottom, or press and hold the on button, until you hear the drum roll (if your device has no pin hole).

If the above worked, happy days, if not, try the one below:

1. Save everything from the device, using Explorer (or Finder on Mac), include all the files (hidden as well). It is also known as a manual backup: http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13354/

2. Then format the internal storage (or memory card, depending which one you use) of your device. Use the COMPLETE format, not the quick. http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12412/

3. Go to TT HOME, Manage my "DEVICE", delete everything from the hard drive and try the update again.

4. Copy your voices and post codes back to the device (also the maps if that didn't download either).

Re: XL IQ looping after installing POI

Hello dhn,

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion. I've tried adding a favourite and disconnecting but it still goes back through the loop.

There's a click, the TomTom logo brightens, then fades it shuts down, re-boots, appears to load from disk and then we are back with the TomTom logo.

Thanks

Rob

Re: XL IQ looping after installing POI

I just purchased one of these so hopefully it will be OK. I am just getting the latest map guarantee for it so fingers crossed after the update all will still be intact.

Re: XL IQ looping after installing POI

Hello Zsolt,

Thanks again for your suggestions. The good news is that I am back to normal, as you say happy days.

In the end I had to go for the long fix, steps 1 to 4. The reformat took over an hour and the rebuild about half that, but its good to have the device back.

Having backed it up, I tried adding the POIs (one from the standard set and one bought from a 3rd party) again. This time no problems at all so not sure what went wrong the first time. I did add them separately this time, disconnecting the device and checking between adds, perhaps adding two POIs the first time broke something.

Still all's well and back on the road. Many thanks,

Rob

Re: XL IQ looping after installing POI

Hi,

Thanks for support. It was frustrating as the XL is a great bit of kit and had served me well over the last 18 months. The traffic is particularly good and has helped me avoid several major holdups.

Problem now fixed, though it required a complete reformat and re-install. Zsolt's instructions were good and easy to follow, just took time.

Happy driving

Rob
