Had exactly the same problem, never did get it resolved and tom tom refused to give me a refund. My tom tom is now worthless.

I finally got the problem resolved after spending a total of four hours on the phone with TomTom and speaking with four customer service reps. The new guys (the first 3 I spoke with) could not resolve it. I kept calling back until I got the issue resolved. The last call, I asked for a "1.5 agent" which is a step up from the newbies. She was able to help me and continued to call me back until everything was resolved. Maybe that will help.

I bought a TomTom XL 335 a couple of days ago (US and Canada maps) and when I was changing the map colour settings the TomTom said it had a memory error. I couldn't connect it to a computer without reformating the TomTom disk - which, since it did nothing other than flash red and white crosses, I eventually reluctantly had to do. This lost the maps and I'd like to know how to recover them - preferably without buying new ones. Thanks, John

Without a backup of the map, you are pretty much out of luck. You could try to call CS at 866-486-6866 (open Saturdays) and appeal to them to add the map back to your account.

I've just bought an updated UK & ROI map for my Tom Tom One and it's saying the download was interupted as the old version of the map could not be deleted. I've no idea what to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks very much dhn - I did manage to persuade CS to add the maps back to my account - which was very good of them - but in the end, since the TomTom was only a couple of days old and clearly didn't work (and I needed to use it urgently), I persuaded Walmart to replace it free of charge. I'm happy with the result both from TomTom and Walmart. Thanks very much, John.

I've fallen for this one as well. I just wish I'd read these posts before I began. I am amazed that a company with TomTom's reputation can get away with it. Just an error message and no support. Formatting just stopped the device working conpletely. I managed to restore back to where I was but it cost me £45 for a map I can't use. It's no wonder they make a profit. I won't be buying Tom Tom again!

I did experience the same situation yesteray with my TomTom One.
My pc shows I have enough room in the card but the program cannot be installed because there is not enough room available.
I would like to know how to get a refund .

You can try this:
1. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. If not sure how, see here: http://www.tomtomforums.com/t17864-how-backup-cont
2. If you did manage to download the map, it'll be found here in compressed format:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\maps\
and you can try to install it manually. See here:

Thanks for your reply but I feel we are missing the point here. I paid £45 to TomTom for an updated map for my sat nav. I should now have an updated machine that works but I do not. I have also spent some considerable time trying to get it to work and I am simply not prepared to waste any more time trying this and that. This should have been a simple process. I still say this is a rip off! I will not buy Tom Tom again and I will make sure all my friends are aware iof my feelings
