I have just bought a US map for my TomTom XL black edition. I followed the instructions on TomTom Home which unistalled my European maps to free up the necessary space and started t download the US map I had just purchased.
However the US map won't download. It is giving me the following error message
ERROR: DesktopLib/InstallToDevice/Install/Single/Destinat

Is this during the download or Install phase of the operation? If the latter, you should find it in compressed format here:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\
and you can try installing manually. See here:

Yes it is during the install phase. I will have a try with what you suggested thanks

That is not working explorer is telling me the folder United_States on the TomTom is currupted and unreadable. As a result it is also not letting me delete the folder so I can replace it with a new folder.

Well, if you indeed have the downloaded map on your computer, then:
1. Use Explorer to format your unit. Don't use quickformat. If Windows throws an error that it can't format, then try highlighting the removable drive representedby TomTom in My Computer. Right Click and one option should be to Repair (or Check for errors). Select that.
Then try formatting the unit.
Next, connect to Home and install the application offered. Disconnect properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.
Then, connect to the computer and use the instructions in the other post to manually install the map.

Tried to reformat using explorer and the reformatting has stalled, been 2 hrs now and it is about 5% of the way through and as part of the reformatting the sat nav has been wiped clean.
Any suggestions on what t od as I now basically have a paperweight ![]()
