I consider myself a fairly tech minded person, So believe me when i tell you that a TomTom GPS unit is by far the worst piece of tech i have ever owned. Do you know why you are getting this ?, Dont worry, neither does TT, ....
My guess is faulty software, shoddy programming and bad hardware. My story begun with a unit that DID NOT work straight out of the box. Had to connect first then do an update because the GPS was not connecting. Then it wouldnt connect to my PC, support as ususal blamed windows ( dont we all ? ). So i decided fine, not an issue i will just install it on my Mac , Well i can tell you that the software interface that TT wrote was even worse then the PC one, couldnt connect threw that either..
So 2 PC's later, I reset the device, and by some mysterious force it worked... for a while, 2 months to be exact................
Now going on 3 weeks i cant connect to live services agian , I have transcripts of UK support dating to the stone age, promising to resolve this issue, but alas their either to dumb or incompetent to fix it. And you should be happy if they are able to replace your unit, Here is South Africa you are lucky if the Centurion office has a front door you can find with your TT Gps. - [ Iphone Google maps did a better job seeing that i could not search google via my TT live service... How pathetic is this company ?! ] . So anyway...
I am still at the same error 148, and sometimes - could not connect to server. Paying for a service i cant use, with a unit that does not work, and a company that cant provide a proper resolve.
To all would be owners.... Stay away !

Where in SA are you located?
For the last two weeks there is HD traffic problems in the Pretoria/Centurion area. TomTom support says there is a problem with Vodacom.
