Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

Is anyone else having the problem of an inordinate amount of time needed to get the live traffic? I travel in the Washington DC area. I am getting sick of the spinning ball on the right side of my GPS. Sometimes I make it all the way home without the unit getting the traffic. This seems to happen mostly during rush hour. If the system works by polling existing GPS Live units on the road but is unable to communicate with them how can we expect to get accurate information.

When I call customer service they want me to reset the machine which I have done but to no avail. The problem is with TomTom and AT&T.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

Hi,

do you have a 2535 TM or a 2535 LIVE? There is a difference and I think there is no 2535 LIVE TM being offered.

The 2535TM only gets traffic information via RDS/TMC if there's a signal which should be the case in Washington DC area. To have it working the RDS/TMC receiver needs to be powered by your car's 12V socket.

If you've got the 2535 LIVE you should indeed receive HD Traffic information. Did you try if soft resetting your device helped? Sometimes the acquiring of a LIVE signal stops in the middle and then only a reset will help.

Regards
Lars.

Re: Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

Lars: Thanks for the reply.

My model is 2535 Live. It is HD and updated by the HD system. I do soft resets all of the time, but still there is a major delay in the Washington DC area on downloading the traffic information. Am I the only one in the USA experiencing long waits for traffic downloads???

Please note my post yesterday in "Re:  Live Services not valid after mandatory update?" (my unit is NOT a GO 2535TM Live; it is a GO 2535M Live):

@lupus1,
I am in the USA. I have a GO 2535M Live with updated version 11.037 and now have no problem getting a GPS signal having done a hard reset (black screen with white text) and taking my "unit" outside to acquire a GPS signal (which it acquired within 5 minutes). However, to re-obtain LIVE Services I needed to manually "sign into" my LIVE account (and re-enter my password manually, even though it was automatically "stored"), while being connected to the GPS signal, and which "signing in" took more than 5 minutes to connect, in order to once again have access to my "paid for" and "still valid" LIVE services. Customer Service in Mexico for the USA advised this "signing in" additional step was necessary to reobtain my LIVE services, after I had already authorized "sharing my information" for LIVE services. I hope this is of help.

Re: Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

Thanks for the reply. I have no trouble getting onto the live traffic/ services (eventually). The problem is the amount of time (sometimes over 20 minutes)  it takes to get to the ttraffic server especially in the PM rush hour. I would hope that within 3 -5 minutes that I start the car and enter my destination I would receive traffic information.

Is the DC region the only place where this is happening? How fast do you get the traffic updates when you start the car?

Re: Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

Hi,

the time you'll need to get the information downloaded from TT's servers gets longer the more users are accessing that server, the more users are using the same network and the more data is needed. Therefore the problems in areas with many people and much traffic are worse than in rural areas.

Still I think as well that it should be faster but there'll be need of another or better multiple other persons in Washington DC area to reproduce / confirm your issue.
Only in the UK it is known that at rushhour the LIVE services often were knocked out especially with the old range of 160km. It is more stable since TT reduced to a range of 120km but still there are some knock-outs from time to time due to overload.

Regards
Lars.

Lars:

Thank you. It now makes sense that more people are accessing the system but  I would hope that they would be able to cope with more users in a major metropolitan area.

Re: Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

I will confirm this in the Washington DC Area.

During Rush-hour (morning or evening) I frequently arrive at my destination (30-40 minutes away) before getting HD Traffic information.  This makes HD Traffic worthless.  Other times of the day, nights and weekends - I usually get HD Traffic in a few minutes on the same routes.

It could be due to the large amount of traffic data during morning and evening commutes – but I wonder if TomTom data has a lower priority on the ATT Network?

Re: Long amount of time to download traffic on the 2535TM Live

Does anyone from TomTom read this? I scouted other message boards and this seems to be a problem to many DC users. Today it took over 30 minutes to get traffic info, even after I reset the machine. The problem is getting worse!
TomTom please do something.
