Forced to upgrade my 920 to 9.4 last night via Home. Unit locked into a perpetual reboot not getting beyond the initial splash screen. When connected to Home, got error message that have wrong version of software for device.
Luckily due very bad experiences with upgrades (both software and maps) I have made it a habit to do a complete file (using MS Explorer rather than Home) every month, so restored from backup after clearing out the device hard drive (no need for reformat, simply delete everything).
However Home is still wanting to force an upgrade to 9.4 (I thing offering is the wrong word as that implies an option to decline the offer). So the choice is a completely useless device or no installation of GPS fixes etc.
I have worked in IT for over 25 years and if I attempted to deploy as a live system what TomTom churn out I would be out of the door so fast my feet wouldn't touch the ground and probably would never work in IT again. The rubbish that TomTom produce and expect people to install should not get past the unit code testing stage let alone the user acceptance stage.

OK, we have one report that 9.400 is not being offered any more, but others that say it is - perhaps only to non-x40 owners, perhaps not. So, do we have anyone else who:
1. Has an x40 series
2. Is running the latest HOME app
3. Has downgraded to 9.058
4. Is not being 'offered' (forced to take) 9.400 when they run HOME?
I'm reluctant to downgrade if it blocks me from getting MapShare and camera updates. I'll probably do it before my next trip, because Live Traffic is worth more to me than updates - but I'd do it immediately if I knew I could still get updates. Yes, I know I can faff about getting an old HOME that doesn't mandate software updates, but it's a hassle I don't need.

I have a GO750 live and I have 9.40 but map share is not available for me. All other services are available.

I am also experiencing issues after updating my GO730 to the latest software. Home was updated to current version a day or so ago as well. I cannot update the safety cameras nor can I restore a back-up I made just prior to updating to the latest 9.4 software.

Same here with a 740 live.
This is why i don't plug into the computer very often. TomTom, please test your stuff first!!!!!!!!

And I took the plunge, downgraded to 9.058, and it's confirmed - I'm not being offered 9.400, but I am being given other updates. This may only apply if you have an x40 unit.
Oh, no MapShare, but that's normal just after a new map is realeased.

I am running a 940 Live and using the latest version of Home, I backdated my unit and connected to Home twice just to check, this is what I was offered.
8.371 Update - No option to "deselect" Updated-works fine including Live services
9.400 Update- No option to "deselect" Updated but got "error 1008"
Interestingly on both connections to Home I wasn't offered 9.058 between 8.371 and 9.40.

No 9.058 never appeared in TT's list of approved navcores....

It's possible that the update is only skipped if you're already running 9.x - I dunno. However, my 940 is now running fine on 9.058, and HOME is not trying to force-feed me an upgrade to 9.400. Your mileage may vary, as they say.
First, make sure you've taken a backup (preferably using Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder, rather than HOME - search the forum if you need instructions). Then, from an earlier post, here's the download links for 9.058:
GO 540/740:
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/9.058.go5
GO 940:

For Windows, download the .cab file, open it with WinRAR, and extract to the root folder of your Tomtom drive, overwriting when prompted.
For Macs, you'll need an archive utility like The Unarchiver (free from the App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/the-unarchiver/id42
