Hi there,
I've just updated the maps on my GO 950 and it kept rebooting. I did a search and found a thread that recommended doing a back-up and deleting the "Application files" on my device and my computer.
This hasn't cured the problem and now when I try to reset the device all I get is a black screen and red power light stays on.
I'm seriously regretting purchasing the map updates now.
Can anybody help?
Thanks.

Does it reboot after it displays the main navigation screen or when you try to select a destination to go to?
If so try the following steps
1. Plug the gps into your computer and run Home -> "Operate my Device" . It take about 30 sec. for this function to initialize. Once it is running you should see an image of your gps on your computer. Use the computer to plan a route to a desination near you. Allow it to calculate the route. Once it is finished click "Done" and disconnect your gps. See if this helps.
2. If the first step did not help the next step is to perform a factory setting reset. Note that this will delete your favorites destinations and reset the gps as factory new. It does not delete your map data. Here is a link for the procedure.

If everything is working ok now, be sure to create a backup of your gps as a precaustion against future problems. We recommend using windows explorer to make the backup.
Note: in the future you can protect against losing your favorites destinations by save the file used to store this information.
The file is named "mapsettings.cfg" and is located in the same folder that contains your map data. The map data folder has the same name as the region it covers. Example if your map covers North America then the folder is named USA_Canada_Mexico_P.
Copy this file to your hard drive every once in a while and should you need to recover your favorites just copy the file from the hard drive back to your gps.

Hi,
No it's not rebooting at all now. All I get is a black screen even after I try to reset it. It was working perfectly up until the map update.

Have you made a backup yet using windows explorer..... You may need it for the next steps.

Hi,
Yes I have made a back-up. The unit is now in a constant reboot loop, the black screen is gone and now the TomTom logo shows up, goes dim , goes black and then the picture of the device comes on and then it starts over again. Occasionally when I reboot the data screen comes on, white build info/spec on a black screen.

Then try Traylaws tipp no 1 in post 2 or alternatively use a file explorer, copy the mapsettings.cfg to your pc and then delete it from the device. Restart it and see whether the reboot loop has been cured.

can someone explain how you are meant to do a hard reset on the device when it won't boot? You can't get to the menu on the device. When using "operate my GO" option on tomtom home, the menu items needed "reset factory settings" is greyed out and cannot be used..
So, how do I do a full reset? My device is also going round and round in a restart loop and operating it from the PC as suggested as option 1 hasn't fixed it...
