Aaarhh !! What a shame. I really thought TomTom had finally sorted this problem with the release of 9.061 software.
After updating my 550 Live it had been great for the last week or so. Fast and responsive with no restarts. Also I really like the automatic power on option which has been available on Garmin devices for years. Well done Tomtom.
However, two days ago the devicec restarted shortly after power on. Now it does it most times I get in the car. I have done a chkdsk and all the other tricks as before but it still restarts.
I'm going back to the theory of it not being compatible with my SD card and will try just the device on it's own.
TomTom state the 9.061 update is to fix a problem with some units freezing or restarting. Well it doesn't seem to have fixed mine!

For me, it seems that the freezes and restarting problems that occurs on the GOX50 Live devices are due to an overloaded 64 MB RAM which can't absorb all the data from navigation, live traffic changes and new route recalculation with IQ route activated.
With the 9.058 navcore and providing that the IQ route was deactivated, my Go 750 Live was functioning decently and was almost freeze and rebooting free (only once in the last six months).
With the mandatory 9.061 navcore (no way not to install it once you connect your GPS to TomTom Home) the situation has worsened to the point that, when new traffic data come in a message warning that the memory is not sufficient is displayed and freezes and restarting are again a "normal behavior".
In short : up to the 9.058 navcore deactivating the IQ route was enough to relieve the miserable 64 MB RAM of my GO 750 Live, but, as the 9.061 navcore probably needs more memory than the previous versions in order to work properly, I should now navigate without the live services to save a little bit more spaces into the RAM.
The problem is that I can't deactivate the Live Service and that my Go 750 Live won't work properly until my subscribtion to the service expires in March 2012.

Multiple restarts again this week, probably just as often as the previous frimware.
Next fix I'm going to try is an adaptation of the clearing route before shut down idea that some folk say helps. I've disabled the "continue from" often in startup preferences and enabled the optional home screen to ask where I want to go. I'm hoping that this will erase the route on each startup and offer a quick way of setting a route.
I still can't believe TomTom have ignored this problem for so long now. I hope they are woking on a solution.

New ideas found on Tomtomax forum:
It seems that disabling the so called "security alerts" (in fact mobiles radars) in the Live section could allow using HD traffic without problem.
Live fuel prices service, which resumed lately (the service was not available for several months) could be another reason for freezing or rebooting the Go x50.
So long as the Live service is activ at TomTom there is no way to disable Live fuel prices service on the nav, but it is said to be worth clearing the fuel prices data via TomTom Home, yet I don't undrestand how that could prevent the Live service to download fuel prices data again.
TomTom don't want to acknowledge the fact that the Live services have now grown too big to fit into the Go x50 Live and play cat and mouse with us on the matter.
I don't see any long-lasting other solution than forgetting about Live services (and save money)

I've given up on my idea of it being an SD card compatibilty problem. Also my idea of truning off the route resume on power up has worked either.
So I'm going to try the Map share idea. How do I tunr it off? Is it done on the unit itself or through Home?
Similarly I'll try disabling the mobile updates in the unit and report back if either/both of these fix the reboot issues.

After watching this thread for a while I am starting to get the impression that Tom Tom either pay no attention to what people are saying or they don't care.
Restarting appears to be a serious problem affecting quite a lot of people but the best support available is 'talk amongst yourselves'.

Latest update......Used Home to reinstall fresh 9.061 navcore, factory reset, all POIs removed, SD card removed. All seemed OK with LIVE connecting quickly, until it restarted. Then restarted again and again.
It seems to be worse if I stop for a brief time (e.g. at a petrol station) and then power up again.
I'm now at a loss. To make it worse I have changed my car to an Audi A4 and the TomTom now causes mobile phone type noises over the radio when it's accessing the LIVE services.
ebay here it comes and I'll try a Garmin.

I sympathise with what appears to be a very wide range of issues which lead to a crash. Equally the lack of obvious input from Tomtom is disappointing .
For myself the problems have for the moment largely disappeared, but I maintain the main issue is signal strength, but I can find no other causes bluetooth, live services and petrol prices have no effect.
Calculating a route and traffic incidents in poor signal areas causes a restart.
