Hi
I have been having mega problems with my 550 it has now got better so that it is ONLY looping in standalone mode.
With a bit of help from Zsoft on this forum I have been able to get it plugged into Tomtom Home. There I was able to operate the device through the PC and also more importantly see some recovered file fragments in the 550.
I am now backing up in Windows and hopefully cure this looping problems.

Exactly the same problem I am VERY annoyed - I log onto Tom Tom Home, performed the recommended updates and ever since the whole thing is just looping - just as you said. What's even more frustrating is that a 520 is graded as one where you have to pay to get it fixed which I am reall upset about seeing as it was the Tom Tom download that seems to upset it.
Have you been able to fix yours?? Any tips? I've tried re setting...

Try connecting the unit to Home. Use the emulator (Operate my Unit). Plan a trip. when it's completed, disconnect properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.
See if that helps.

If I connect it to my pc and go to tom tom home to operate it I get the message 'Tom Tom Home has working' and windows shuts it down. The problem also started after updating the device.

That should have read' TomTom home has stopped working' I cant do anything with it connected to my PC.

I found the trick was in leaving it alone for a period. Then charging through the PC USB cable for aperiod and then switching.
If you have it plugged in and it is looping it will just keep going. Let it loop unplugged to flatten the battery.
When you switch it on hopefully Windows will see the drive and you can the manipulate the files through Explorer.
Zsoft recommended reformating the drive and then copying back files from your backp. I got away with deleting the files and then copying back.
Good luck
