what filesystem does Tomtom now use?

From various sources I understand that Tomto has done away with FAT32 due to patenting problems or something. I say, good riddance!

What exactly does Tomtom use now as its filesystem?

Thanks.

Ha! That might be the only positive thing I have heard so far for my first ever GPS unit (I am still on the fence though). It is likely that it will be detected in Ubuntu when plugged in via USB. Besides, it would explain why Windows users can't plug it in and see it in Windows.

Also, could you specify how much ram does 1535TM have? At Newegg, looks like the 1505 has 4 Gb and 1535 has 2GB !, while the latter is more expensive? Thanks.

Yes it will be detected if you plug it into Ubuntu. That is the good news. The bad news is that it is encrypted. Maybe using some sort of private/public key.

Re: what filesystem does Tomtom now use?

When I plug my GO 2535 into my laptop, Ubuntu Linux detects it as an wired Ethernet device (network), not as an external drive the way older TomToms are (devices using TomTom Home to manage and update the device, essentially). On older TomToms, you cannot install TomTom Home using a Linux O.S. to manage the device, but you can make backup copies and manipulate the files normally. None of this seems possible with the new TomToms, that use MyTomTom to manage and update the device.

Re: what filesystem does Tomtom now use?

True. It appears as a network device. Attempts has been made to do an SSH to the device. See below:

But the TT GO acts as a server with a key to protect the SSH.
