I bought a new TomTom Start 20 last week. I did all the updates, charged it for over 3 hours via USB and when I tried to use it, it just starts up for a few seconds, then switches itself off. I haven't even been able to use it once.
First time, I managed to get as far as it calculating the route. Then it turned off. Decided to charge it for longer just in case. Now I can't even get it to go past the start screen without it going black.
Tried resetting it, had the same.
Seems a bit off for a brand new device to be doing this! Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!
Try to charge with an other cable, yours might be broken.
If this doesn´t help the battery seems to be faulty. Best is to bring the device back to the seller then for replacement.

Plug it into your USB port
Try a Soft/drum-roll start :- Link below.
You won’t lose anything
Then with the unit still plugged in
On the menu screen
Tap left cursor twice
Tap Battery status
It will show the charge state of the battery and whether its charging or not
As a rough guide if the green battery icon shows a black two pin plug inside a circle the lead is OK

Thank you for the quick replies. I'll try this when I get home tonight. If it still doesn't work, I'm off back to the shop!
Seems awfully odd for it to happen. Is the charging issue a common on in these models? It seems to come up a lot on google search!
