It seems TomTom rushed to market and has NOT made the download of POI available on this model. I can only add my own.
Before buying I called tomtom and made SURE I could still download third party poi. I was told yes, but in reality the answer should have been no.

Did you asked that downloading poi's through the myTomTom support application is/was still available?
Formulating Questions
A question can be misunderstand when its being formulated in a different way:
Question 1
The answer would always be similiar to:
Yes its possible to download third party poi's (from the world wide web), then you are able to upload them to the navigation device.
Note: when the device is not mentioned in the question or the support application: TomTom Home or the myTomTom Support Application, the representive may assume that the question goes about the TomTom Home application.
Question 2
The answer would always be similiar to:
No, its currently not possible to download third party poi's with the myTomTom Support Application, however you are able to download them from the world wide web, then you are able to upload them to the navigation device.

I went into great detail. However I was mislead. Even today the support team was confused about how to do this and it was ME that walked them through many screens. Bottom line - I don't even think support really know because they must be lacking training.
I LOVE tomtom but this is not great or even good...

If I'm understanding your question/problem right you are not able to download 3rd party POI's? If so, you can download 3rd party POI's with an editor. I have been using and trying several different ones that Stefan told me about. I'm about to settle one one.....until TomTom gets the software problems worked out, or I take it back. I have been making my own POI's using an editor and its works fairly well. A little round about way of doing it but it works so far.

What is the editor? Where can I get instructions on how to's? Like setting it up for dunkin donuts?

Here are 3 that I am trying:
http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor
http://softop.tomtomusers.com/TomPoiEdr/#Info
Pay attention as to the file(s) that you download that they are .ov2 files for TomTom. Its around about way of doing things, but it works. I just put in the info, download to .ov2 files, then placing in a file that I can access with mytomtom.
Hope this helps.
