I have posted this elsewheres as well
I have a Go1000 and I assumed it did not have a battery and only worked when connected to car or computer. I made this assumption as for the last 18 months this is what happened. The battery has never charged and the unit goes off as soon as I unplug it. The battery saving settings are right but the battery is a dud. I have not sent the machine back as I have read that this seems not to make a difference and is at my expense. Also I only use the unit in the car so it doesn't matter all that much. It just goes to show that, after all the complaints I have read about the Go1000 in Australia since I bought my unit (and there are way too many to count), I will buy a Garmin next time. I cannot and will not recommend the Go1000 to anyone - it is an inherently flawed unit and no software updates will fix it.

Thanks Ditte but as I said, following all the negative comments I have read about people trying to deal with dead batteries with TomTom service and the fact that I only use it in the car when connected, I have no desire to try to fix this 18+ month problem. Given the incredible amount of problems that the Go1000 had on it's debut in Australia with an extensive delay on maps etc, I find it almost amusing that all this time later there are so few, if any, positive comments on the Go1000 on these forums. Also as I said once this has finally annoyed me enough I will GO Garmin.
P.S. I have just found that your spell checker thinks GO100 is **bleep**;s and does not know the word Garmin - says alot does it not.
