Waiting for valid GPS signal

Just bought a TomTom Start 25 Europe but the panel in the middle of the screen remains on "Waiting for valid GPS signal" I've attached it to my iMac and done all the necessary updates, I've even taken it for a walk outside and also manually set the date and to to the correct one but still no signal.

Any ideas?

Try to perform a full reboot (no settings lost):

http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7134/kw/reset

Tip: Ask assistance when feeling not comfortable by following the next instructions.

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:

  1. Remove the Mount from the device by pressing the release button on the Mount.

  2. Pull the back cover off the device by holding either side of the cover and pushing the device through the centre of the cover.

  3. Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. The reset button is on the bottom of your device.

Follow the instructions in reverse order to reassemble the cover.

Re: Waiting for valid GPS signal

Hi Stefan, are you sure that's the Start 25 that you are referring to? I've got a Start 25, and it definitely doesn't come apart in the manner you've described.

Re: Waiting for valid GPS signal

Hi Eddie,

I think Stefan confused it with the Start or Ease as they're also called.

Your start25 is being reset by the power button. Hold it until you hear the drum sound and then let go.

Any better? :smileyhappy:

Thanks,

-Ditte

Re: Waiting for valid GPS signal

Thanks for this advice. After searching the forum and Google I realised that it probably wasn't grabbing a signal because I was indoors. I stuck it on my living room window and left it. Ten minutes later it kicked into life with a full GPS signal. Also, the fact that it was a new piece of kit probably meant it was having to perform what I now know is a 'cold start'.

Anyway, all is now good in TomTom world and I'll soon be giving it a workout!

Thanks again.

Apologize, I could only choose the start/ease navigation device on the 'US website'.

Should have looked on the UK knowledge base, the Start 20 series are listed there.:smileysurprised:

Thanks Ditte - mine's fine - I was just checking with Stefan, as my Start 25 was totally different to the one he described.

Re: Waiting for valid GPS signal

When I first turn on my One XL the signal for the satellite can take 10 minutes to obtain a signal to navigate to my destination,

Re: Waiting for valid GPS signal

Do you have the latest QuickGPSFix update installed with TomTom Home? This file contains the satellite positions for the week, so the device is able to get a lock onto the satellites faster.
