Voice Warning of Excess Speed

I have just bought my first Tom Tom( Via Live 120) and am disappointed by the excess speed warnings.  My previous GPC (not a TT) had verbal safety warnings.

So far I have not managed to get them to work, but now have instructions from Customer Support which I'm told will overcome the bug in the current software.  However, I am told that the only warnings available are the meaningless tones provided.  I would prefer a voice with a message eg "Speed is Excessive".

Does anyone know how to repace one or more of the existing warning sounds with a pre-recorded spoken warning?

Re: Voice Warning of Excess Speed

You can't. But there is nothing wrong with the tone. You can setup, which tone to be the excessive speed. It is either alert you for speed cameras, red light cameras and excessive speed.

Re: Voice Warning of Excess Speed

If you go to PocketGPSWorld you can find the voice warnings there. Although they are designed for Pockets own camera database they are OGG files and will work with the newer tomtoms. It is possible to drag and drop the wav voice warnings from earlier units (mine was a go 540) by connecting to the computer and treating the unit as an external drive. Open it to show the folders and select the one titled warnings. Drag it to the desktop. Next is to download a freebee audio converter which will easily convert WAV and others to Ogg. (Meow Multi sound works well) Having done this (easier than it sounds) fire up my tomtom and select add communty content from the pop up box. Select add warnings...browse. open the warnings folder you made for the converted WAv /Ogg  files and install them to your unit. They will show up in the warning sounds section and will work well. You can also record warnings to your computer or old unit and process these in the same way.  Have fun

Click on the little envelope in the top right and you can send a PM (personal message) to someone so that it is private to them.

Re: Voice Warning of Excess Speed

Many thanks for sending me the voice warnings.  However, I cannot work out how to load them.  I have connected my TT via USB but cannot see it on my computer as a drive with folder (I have Win 7) and cannot find any options for adding community content to My Tom Tom using a browser.    Do the instruction above and on the Pocket GPS page apply to the Via Live 120?

Re: Voice Warning of Excess Speed

You won't be able to upload the voices to the VIA 120, but can the Speed Cam database, as long as it is in .ov2 format.

Re: Voice Warning of Excess Speed

[ Edited ]

Hi

Download the latest MyTomTom

From www.tomtom.com/getstarted

Install and follow on screen instructions

Right click on the MyTomTom Icon on your taskbar and you will then find Add Community Content.

Next click on Add Community Content and in the warning sounds section add the .ogg file (the warning ) you wish to use.

Now do a Soft-start as follows :-

Switch the TomTom on and then press and hold the power On/Off button for about 20 seconds until you hear the drum-roll sound then release the On/Off Button.

The tomtom first restart after the Soft-start will take longer than normal.

Next in the Setting Menu level 2 press <Safety Setting>

Then If not ticked then tick box "warn when driving faster than allowed"

Press <Next>

Search through the warning sounds and select the warning sound you loaded and select.

Then follow the on screen instructions to setup your new warning.

Next do another Soft-start

And with a bit of luck and a tail wind it it should curse you for speeding.

Re: Voice Warning of Excess Speed

Many thanks to all who helped.  I now have voices telling me to slow down, in spite of having been told by the official TT support that it was not possible!
