Re: Via live 125

[ Edited ]

Even the TOM TOM itself (without the computer) is not easy to navigate around compared to other brands... I am increasingly frustrated with it!
How do I go to Live Services???
All I keep getting is the Map... then I press the arrow - and all I get is 'Report Speed Camera' OR 'Call' OR 'Navigate to Postcode' OR 'Navigate to spoken Address'
(why whould I want to do that when I just want to find the nearest McDonald's enroute that has already been mapped????)
NONE OF THESE ARE WHAT I WANT... BUT I HAVE TO PRESS ONE OR PRESS OK... & I'm back to the **bleep** MAP!!!

Absolutely FED UP!
REGRET wasting my money on a TOM TOM!

Your Via MUST use MyTomTom, not Home 2. Check your firewall and anti-virus settings if the MyTomTom web site is getting blocked.

YES... I have exactly the same problem... been trying since I bought it 6 weeks ago.
Managed to get the download on a friends XP system... but need it on my computer which is Windows 7.
Absolutely fed up with my TOM TOM... not easy to navigate on its own either compared to colleages I work with who have other brands and can locate so much quicker than me... Well... I cannot locate anything enroute... eg.nearest McDonald's.
REGRET BUYING TOM TOM VIA LIVE 125 - and where are the 1 YEAR FREE LIVE SERVICES???
All I get is messages to pay out EU 49.95 - absolutely annoying!
Now I see that on the Navigate to: page the FAVOURITES is no longer an option!!!! Ughrrrrrhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?????

Re: Via live 125

I get exactly the same...
I turn on my computer and I get a message saying that there are updates... So go out to the car & get my Tom Tom & when I plug it in there are no updates! What a bloody waste of time!

I WANT A REFUND... I wish I had bought a Galvin! My work colleague has one and it is so much easier to use and quicker to navigate... and a £££ Cheaper!
REALLY REGRET BUYING MY TOM TOM VIA LIVE 125!  Sick of it!!! Sick of the supposed online support & sick of no access to the promised uploads that I should get for one year... but keep being asked to pay EU 49.95 for.
I got this 6 weeks ago, but I am going back to Halfords to tell them how very diappointed I am with TOM TOM & try for a Full Refund.
I will be warning everyone I meet NOT to buy  the TOM TOM brand... I hate these broken promises they made in the sales pitch of 1 Year Free Support & Uploads & Funny Voices etc.! It is RUBBISH in comparison to GALVIN.

Re: Via live 125

hi potter,a word of advice from someone whos been there and done it ,ive gone through two go live 1000s in about last 10/12 weeks so switched to garmin ,got lent one of the new nulink s with high hopes ,oh my god what a piece of c r a p

the layout confusing ,traffic data absolutaly useless, kept trying to take me over resevoirs and fields, hated the whole 2 week experience ,so ive down graded slightly to a go 550 live.ok its not as fast as the new units but it does everything it should ,map share ,voice downloads, itinnary planning , bluetooth etc etc ,all done through home 2 ,now i used to call home2 but after using home 3 i think its great, ive backed my unit up something else you cant do .ive left a review on halfords site re garmin nulink 2320 under vanman24  stear clear ,oh and it wasnt that my unit was faulty i visited a few halfords  to try there display units and all gave the wrong info.

ps my friend had a hell of a job getting a refund they tried saying that once purchased the licence goes to garmin my friend told them his contract is with them not garmin and its not fit for purpose ,he said this whilst stood next to the sat navs with people browsing at them(think this helped ,anyway have a good think and good luck

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1st go live 1000 (dead)
second go live 1000 (dead)
current go live 550 alive and doing what the 1xxx/2xxx/ vias should be doing

Well dazza24... Thanks very much for replying. I am amazed to see that I am now a TOM TOM Advisor, when I'm the one needing advice!
I have been working alongside my colleage who has a Garmin Sat Nav and I was so impressed with it that I decided to buy my first Sat Nav... my Son advised me to get a Tom Tom and I have regretted that purchase ever since...
Why do I have to hold down the button for so long to turn it on?
WHY do I get 'Drive Safely' Messages TWICE once after turning on and then every time I change my route...
Very Annoying!
I have tried my TOM TOM for 6 weeks now... still struggling to find & navigate the different menus with it... the only thing that I can do is go from A to B... if I want to make a detour enroute... it cannot cope with it... If I want to find a McDonalds it brings up loads of other eateries that I'm not interested in. If I try to find the screen which allows me to search for Places of Interest... I cannot find it... then a while later when looking for something else I see it... it is pot luck! WHY NO MAIN MENU???
It says there is a facility to map new routes and I spend most weekends at our holiday chalet ME12 4RJ - THAT PLACE IS OFF THE MAP!!! I have tried to teach it where it is by removing the 'end of road barrier', but it continually takes me to the wrong place & wrong postcode! SICK OF IT! I just switched on and again it has changed the address on my Favourites from our chalet address to Leysdown Road, Leysdown... when the address I want is in the next Town on  a different road - Shellness Road which is in the town called SHELLNESS - NOT LEYSDOWN!!
Urgggh It is infuriating! We pay our Council Tax... it is a bonafide address, but Tom Tom does not accept it WHY???
So I tried to delete the WRONG address off of the Favourites List... AND IT DELETED ALL MY FAVOURITES... WHY?
My work colleague & I go to many addresses every day throughout Essex  & surrounding counties...  and my friends Galvin tells us exactly where the house or flat is EVERY TIME... eg."No.23 On the left" - why is my Tom Tom not able to do this?
I will certainly not be buying another TOM TOM... you don't send good money after bad...
I aim to try and get a refund on this TOM TOM VIA LIVE125 and buy a the same model of Gavin that my work colleague has... which is ££Cheaper AND he gets 4 Free Updates a year for the life of his Garmin Sat Nav!
Thanks for the advice... Me thinks you must work for TOM TOM
If so how about answering some of my queries?
Or do you think that the TOM TOM VIA LIVE 125 was a bad purchase too?

Re: Via live 125

[ Edited ]

hi potter ,read some of my posts, you will realise i dont work for tomtom.if i did i would be sacked by now.you dont seem to be having much luck,it seems the new units fall into two catagories,, 1  - fantastic ,cant live without it    2  what a piece of cr a p.   there doesnt seem to be a middle of the road.i think its that friday/monday manufacture quote, built on friday are rubbish cos they want to get home quick ,mondays are great cos there concentrating ,the two 1000s i had were great when working, very accurate but the faults on mine were related to the bluetooth side of it.the garmin i used was a absolute nightmare now by coincedence both units were both companys new units.so it looks like both of them are rushing items out.i hear good things about the garmins but not yet regarding the latest,2320/40/90   although the 1695 gets good reviews.

as i said ive now gone for a older tomtom and its working great maybe thats the way to go with the garmins and go for the same model as your friends.just be carefull if going for a new one like tomtoms new ones there not without there faults.as for the promotion to advisor ,i know it makes me laugh aswell ,i got promoted to trusted contributor after a rant at them

re your queries ,if i input mcdonalds into my 550 i only get mcdonalds listings ,maybe the search paramiters have changed on the new ones ,on my garmin i used to get "no entry found" for places like b&q ?

the drive safely message was probably showing because you had "show tips "selected  under safety preferences i think its on by default

personaly i think the menu system is good when you tap the navigate to you should of seen the poi icon, there is a main menu as soon as you tap the screen your presented with it showing navigate to,view map, settings, services, plan route and help

the post code you gave(i think a mod will remove this) on my unit it was at the end of a road but still on the map

also bear in mind tomtom and garmin can only be as good as the post code providers for accuracy and like you said it showed leysdown

ive just been on the royal mail post code location site and they come up with exactly the same location as my tomtom

the address shows as shellness rd leysdown on sea, shellness.the map for royal mail is the same as my unit

heres a link for the royal mail site for you to check accuracy

http://www2.royalmail.com/postcode-finder

as for favourites what a joke its all or nothing on deletion

sometimes wish tomtom would buy garmin or the other way around we would probably get the units we all want then as they both have good and bad points

good luck with what you decide
